The homabed underneath that crossover and the subsequent turnout over the drop gate is in place.

Now I need to prep a couple more pieces of flextrack.

Nice Dave. But are you sure you can't get more distance from the backdrop? I know we never have enough but another 6" would make life easier and scenes prettier.

Not really… This is the stretch at the top of the trackplan. (page 1)
I'm thinking this could be a 'stretch through the woods'.

Mostly I cleaned the rooms today. But I did make and then start to cut in a new turnout:
This is along the top wall towards the electrical closet.

Yes, I see now. I cam in late to your discussion in this tread and didn't take a close look at your plan when I did. Given your Min. Radius and the size/shape of the room you've done about as good as you can. You said you're Going to urbanize the "blob". Does that mean you're going to add some tracks for street running?

I'm painting track and turnouts to install, look for some photos in a couple days.
add I got ambitious (while waiting for some paint to dry) and went around and soldered most of the rail joints. Then I cleaned and touched up the rail, and inserted some missing ties. Track is starting to look pretty good...

The crossover and turnout to the drop-gate are now in place. (The track extending from them towards the bottom of the photo are not permanent, they're just there to show where the track goes.)
The black spot on the crossover is a truck that I was using for some early testing.
I'm really kinda burned out on trackwork. Maybe I'll go work on rough scenery for a while.

When trackwork becomes tiresome it’s time to take a break. You don’t want to hurry and run the risk of taking shortcuts.

True, but if I stopped when trackwork became tiresome, I'd never run a train. This is not my favorite part of the hobby. So off to orogeny.

Good progress, Dave. What are you using for track center distance?

Looking good, Dave. Glad you have a diversion from the less enjoyable aspects of the hobby. I pushed through soldering feeders yesterday and was all ready to splice them into the bus wires when a diversion was foisted upon me...we need a new oven. Today we're getting it, so that puts life on hold AND upsets the apple cart for a while. This is not a simple replacement as it involves quite a bit of creative carpentry. Fortunately I have help. It'll be good to get back to wiring when this is all done!
Your progress looks great. Looking forward to a golden spike!

Most sidings are on 2 1/8 centers, but the Fast Tracks crossover jig expects 2" centers. So that's the spacing on the trackwork shown above.

I put away all the track tools, and started ripping some styrofoam to get the landforms in the blob. I have a piece of canvas that I can toss over the slabs of styrofoam to give me an idea of finished countours.
Photos in a day or so, when I have something I like :-)
