I'm doing research on building another indoor G scale layout. I'm considering building on foam tables, I've read a few threads on foam based G scale layouts but don't seen a great and easy solution. What is the best way to attach standard LGB/USA trains/PIKO etc. code 332 track to foam? Do people just glue it, does it work and does it stay glued? What type of glue do you use?

Regards,
Ted

If you want to glue directly, that will work too, as long as you have enough surface area. Most G scale ties are hollow, so what you can do is fill them with a piece of wood glued into the tie and then use that surface area to white-glue the tie to the polystyrene. I guess one out of twelve ties should be sufficient.

Best regards,

Frédéric

I saw how Landrel Brown did it on his modular layout he built, cut out holes glued in wood (or was it cork), the scrwed track to that. That's a great method, I was looking for an easier method that required less work. I will probably stick with plywood as I don't want to deal with the work involved with foam, and the cost. However, both are expensive right now.

Regards,
Ted

Frank, you and your folks sure must have a good time, whenever the dissolvents get airborne, don't you?

Gorilla Glue or any of the off brand water activated polyurethane adhesives works best on foam base. When it kicks off the glue expands to fill the void under the ties. Do a test piece before committing to the entire module.

On the Sundance Central we have used literally gallons of GG. We have foam base and foam rocks, we use it everywhere.
