These 2 are the first of several left over from a large box lot of cars and rubbish (emphasis on rubbish, ) that I had bought a few years ago. I pulled all of the decent cars that took only a few hours of effort to move them to either keep or depart. The rest were salvaged for parts, trucks, etc and more than a few made some great kindling last winter,

But, I kept a few on the shelf thinking that there might be something there other than just kindling.

These 2 were basically wooden boxes with a boxcar roof section all nailed together when I started.

Moving a bit slow, but the roofing is on now...

Got some paint of the car & tank and reassembled, so now it's touch up and work on the roof.

Thanks, guys!

Got the rest of the underbody installed:

That one screw secures the tank in place.

M~,
Excellent brass workmanship! I'm all eyes looking over Mike's shoulders eager to see what's next brother.
Thanx Thom...

Have to build a cradle to hold it in place next. Probably also have to make it removable if only for painting it vs. the car body. Have to find a suitable sheet metal screw,

And here's what goes on the other end of the car.....had a pair of Lobaugh ends and dome parts - just a matter of rolling some sheet brass and soldering everything together....

mwbpequod Posted - 03/07/2021 : 09:47:51 AM
Stripped off the old underbody bits and added new bolsters and started in on installing a new underbody.

A little work on the "structure" end of car. New ends, a door, end overhand bits added to roof, some trim, and corners added...milled out the ends to accept Kadee coupler boxes, too.

Possibly true, but I had so many "projects" stacked up that I just thought to thin the herd and apply the income toward more parts to finish the rest of the herd. Best laid plans of mice.....

Thanks! Background: I tried to sell this off for 2+ years and got tired of looking at it, so while I was working on some other projects, I got a few ideas to finish it off.

Think it's also an old Walther kit car for a crane tender or something of that class.

It'll be something else when I'd done with it,

mwbpequod,
I enjoy lurking from time to time here following along with these cool wood kit builds.

There's something cool (challenging) about building a wood kit with cast/brass casting one just doesn't get with an all plastic kit.

I've built over the years something around 2 dozen kit cars and still have another 10 left. I believe I've posted several builds somewhere on this forum in the last few years.

Your skills are really good and I find myself always interested in each car you build.

Thank you for sharing and keep up the great works Martin.
Thanx Thom...
