I’ve been contemplating the building of a TT scale layout for quite some time now. The original plan was to build the first section and see if I could get it published in one of the major railroad publications. I have instead decided to do an SBS (step by step) and post it to two other forums besides Rail Line Forum, TTnut and Model Railroad Hobbyist.

It’ll be a “sectional layout”. By sectional I mean a part of one scene will be completely built before the second section is started. It will not be based on any modular concept design. I don’t plan on being able to add on to other modules. It will be a strictly stand alone railroad.

I already have two plans on paper for the first two sections. The first section will be based on Chuck Yungkurth’s Gum Stump & Snowshoe Railroad published in the April 1966 issue of Model Railroader. The first and second section will represent a logging line. The third will be a coal mining operation.

I’m going to try a light weight construction technique so the sections can be taken to local trains shows for display.

So let the fun begin in the next post.

Bernd

Well shiver me timbers, and here they are. Your chopper must be chopping away into the wee hours.

Thanks for looking in Carl B

And here are the bunch Frank.

The back of the building frame work.

Back on the left, Front on the right.

Side view

Sort of a 3/4 rear view.

3/4 front bird's eye view.

3/4 front ground view.

Not quite satisfied with how it came out, but not to bad for the first time building a post & beam model. Now I'll have to wait for the siding to show up so I can sheath the building after I stain the boards. perhaps I'll tackle one of the other projects sitting on the bench.

So with Franks suggestion I redid the drawings. Here are the results.

A 200% improvement. Thanks Frank. Now I won't get red tagged by the building inspector.

I'll like to add my approval to that of the committee's of assembled experts on the design changes. Those sharp and square cuts will show up excellently in the model.

Bernd,

It’s a wise person who listens to good advice and follows up. It’s looking good.

Aw, I sent it already? Don't I have to build it first? I'll be sure to make one with no razor blades, that way you won't cut yourself.

Thanks. I'm still waiting on an order from Kappler. I ordered HO scale 2" X 8" boards for wall covering. The HO scale 1" X 8" were just to thin. That's one of the problems with smaller scales. Thinner material makes for flimsy structure.

It's that magnetic personality don't you know?

Your humble opinion is greatly excepted. It sure makes it look better. When I looked at it after I drew it there seemed to be something missing. Glad you caught it before I glued the beams to each other. Here's what the drawings look like now.

Thanks. It's a great improvement.

That's what I like about this forum. A bit of frivolity and serious scratch building. What more could you ask for?

Oh, an up-date maybe? Ok.

I printed out the ends and glued them to the steal plate.

And started to assemble the beams.

More come.

Carl, It's just part of the Lo-commotion that seeps into otherwise sane threads, or in the case of the original "Parkay" photo above, sane spreads :)

Little did I know the commotion I would cause by asking for this photo!
