These 2 are the first of several left over from a large box lot of cars and rubbish (emphasis on rubbish, ) that I had bought a few years ago. I pulled all of the decent cars that took only a few hours of effort to move them to either keep or depart. The rest were salvaged for parts, trucks, etc and more than a few made some great kindling last winter,

But, I kept a few on the shelf thinking that there might be something there other than just kindling.

These 2 were basically wooden boxes with a boxcar roof section all nailed together when I started.

Like Mike and the rest of us, I really enjoy watching you make silk purses from sows' ears. Fabulous job, and yes, I appreciate the "fun" involved in a way I could not have forty years ago.

Keep going, and please keep the photos coming!

I enjoy watching you make something out of bits and pieces like this.

A couple of Mainline Models kits are lurking in my cupboard but for the life of me I canít decide what to do with them. The sheetwood siding is so old and dry that every time I get them out Iím lucky if I donít break something.

Looking good as usual from you Martin'... Just, what is in that box of goodies....
mwbpequod Posted - 09/29/2019 : 11:37:24 AM
Might be parts leftover from 3 projects, neatly stored in that box. I'll be watching along.

Indeed. But it's giving me another opportunity to use up some of the excess parts I've got stashed away while being a source of good fun.

Got the basic "box" assembled with a new underbody framing and new end blocks with siding on the exterior and a new roof section....

mwbpequod Posted - 09/22/2019 : 09:11:04 AM
Sides assembled and reinforced from the back with 1/32" basswood cross grain on the back - pre-painted side parts were "variable" in thickness so getting stuff aligned with this "kit" will be something to be watched as I go along.

I suspect the Athearn paper came from the box containing the missing roof, floor etc.

Possibly...but Grandt Line hatches? Well, it's either those or some Scale Craft or Walthers metal ones out of the parts bins.

Working up the sides this week and a new interior framing & floor assembly.

I always enjoy watching your resurrections; this one promises to be a Cultural Experience! Go for it!

Ok, something a little different - not a caboose

An older Main Line kit (why that Athearn paperwork was included is a mystery) that I had thought would be fun to relax with building....... except..... the roof is missing..... and the floor is missing ....and the end block (well, I think that's what they are...) are too short for the sides, and the doors that someone made are mismatched... and, so okay then.....it is a salvage yard exercise after all. Not sure if there are enough detail parts in the bag to do this car but not a problem there. Grandt Line narrow gauge reefer hatches....we'll see how those look....

Actually, this provides a bit of opportunity to install what might be better floor and underbody than the kit every provided. And, I'm betting that just about everything other than the sides will go into either the trash or the scrap box.

Nicely done!

Thanks, Mike.

I think I'm off cabooses and off to looking through the kits on the shelves for a bit of fun next.
Michael Hohn Posted - 09/08/2019 : 10:20:16 AM
Very nice.
mwbpequod Posted - 09/08/2019 : 08:57:45 AM
Done for now or as far as I'll go with this one....

And, that's enough cabooses for quite a while, I think. Off to some other type of car for the next exercise.
