Glad you enjoyed the layout, and thanks to Allen for making your tour possible.

Bonnie and I enjoyed our tour of the club layout with Allen & Beth Hurst. Since the tour was sold out before I registered, I was afraid that I would miss seeing the Columbia, Cascade & Western. However, Allen made the necessary arrangements!

You guys have really made a great deal of progress and have created some very nice scenes!

I've posted some picture in the Convention thread near the bottom of this page: http://www.railroad-line.com/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=45830&whichpage=4

Thanks for the update, Rick. We hope to be there.

For those that are interested in seeing the layout at the National Convention, we will be open on Friday August 28th for the Portland area Club layout tour from 4pm to 10pm. For those that are members of the Layout Design Special Interest Group, we will be open on Wednesday August 26th from 9am to 3pm for the LDSIG self guided tour. And we will be hosting two operating sessions on Monday August 24th and Thursday August 27th for the Operations Special Interest Group, check the Portland Convention website for details.

Having followed the construction of your space and layout over the years, and now to see the level of detail and the quality of your scenery, your progress is amazing and extremely well done! Now I feel motivated to go the the national!
Dutchman Posted - 01/21/2015 : 6:09:43 PM
Those are some great scenes, Joe.

I hope to see it next summer at the National.

Anthony O'Carroll created this scene at the east end of Shelburn.

Rick asked me to add a couple of progress pictures. We will be open (schedule TBA) at various times during the week of the Portland 2015 NMRA convention at the end of July this year.

The club will be featured in an article in the Feb. 2015 NMRA magazine, which will include a mostly accurate trackplan.

It's good to hear from you Rick. I was wondering what happened to you guys. How about some pictures, or maybe even a video to show off your progress.
Rick A Posted - 11/27/2014 : 12:31:31 PM
Its been a while since the last up-date. Just to let everyone know that we are still here, we have been operating on the completed mainline for over a year now. The benchwork is complete for the lower level Woodburn branch, and the track work is in and operational for approximately half of the branch line. So we are making good progress toward the 2015 NMRA National next August.

Graham Line Posted - 12/31/2013 : 2:32:58 PM
Extending the mainline has had many benefits. We no longer need to hand-carry trays of train cars and engines from temporary staging to the Mole -- traffic now runs to Tunnel Creek on the layout, then down a multi-turn helix into Bend (which is the other end of Albany staging).

The Phase 3 extension adds three passing sidings, given the dispatcher more flexibility on the single-track main line. Two main tracks run from Shelburn west to Irvinville. We have also added a rock train shuttle which runs in the morning up from the Woodburn branchline (now temporary staging) up to Detroit on the main. A loaded train runs the opposite direction in the evening. The morning train also switches out Green Veneer at Idanha, east of Detroit.

Photos and a track diagram appeared in Model Railroad Hobbyist in February 2013, at http://model-railroad-hobbyist.com/magazine/mrh-2013-02-feb

You can hear Rick and David tell you all about it in the video interview.

That is a great milestone, Rick. Let us know how the first operating session goes.
Rick A Posted - 09/07/2013 : 11:47:25 AM
Its been a while since the last up-date, the entire mainline is in, it took us a couple months longer than expected but the layout is now complete. We have a few minor bugs to work through. We will have our first operating session using the entire mainline at the end of this month, its going to add quite a bit more running time, so its going to be interesting how big the change is going to be operationally.
