  • Interesting? Maybe

I couldn't think of another subject header.

Many years a go I ran across a picture if Nighthawks Dinner. It's a sort of picture you don't forget. Last nigh on the New Tracks Modeling Zoom meeting I finally got a bit more info on this place and some of it's history.

Why the interest? Well I travel the back allies of the internet as soon as the fake news comes on to see what's really going on behind the scenes. I visit, I mean just visit, no participation, where very autistic hackers take the political pictures and news to see if it's fake or real and where the information came from. Seems they run two shifts. A day shift and a night shift. Well in one their posts this picture came up.

What cracked me up was one of the patrons sitting at the bar. He seemed to be explaining the world problems to the "soda jerk".

I don't want this to turn into a political flame war. It was just interesting where some of your pictures might wind up out on the ether.

I will now return to my hole and not reappear till, oh I don't know when. Until the next interesting thing crosses my path.

Bernd, That painting has found its way into model railroading a few times including here on the RRLine Forums (can't recall who modeled it or find a link to it).

I think John Armstrong was the first to model it: "Modeling a mood" MR January 1989 pg 130

    More examples here:

and for more just Google model RR nighthawks

Bill, I think your right. You jogged my memory because it seemed like it was a long time ago. And then I also saw it on the forum.

Was it Steve Flannigan here on the forum who did a model of this? Or maybe Greg?

Nighthawks cafe as derived from the Armstrong model was released as a kit in multiple scales by Wit and Wisdom: https://wit-and-wisdom-models.com/

I built and reviewed it for O Scale Trains magazine last year.

In a time like ours seemings and portents signify. Ours is a generation when dogs howl and the skin crawls on the skull with its beast's foreboding.

"REDNECKS" Painting in oil by the great (in his own mind) artist Bubba Hopper.

Thanks for keeping it nonpolitical. I appreciate that. It just surprised me to see that specific picture show up that far into the other side of the internet.
