Good morning all, from 26f and overcast N.E. Indiana. The coffee urn has signaled READY with Gandy Dancer blend. The special is a Western omelet, Texas toast, and Grandma Sweeter's grits. The oatmeal pot is just about empty, so whoever gets the last of it, bring the pot to the scullery.
I had a pretty good day yesterday on the bench. I dug out three candidate engines for the 'keep alive' conversion. Two Mikados, one is an old BLI Quantum, the other an Oriental Limited. Last was an Athearn Cow/Calf pair. I was in immediate trouble, as the BLI hadn't seen rails in about 10 years. I put it on the test track and immediately wiped out the decoder settings. Decoder Pro wouldn't read the decoder. After finding a QSI archive page on the internet I was able to do a full reset to that decoder. QSI is 'dormant' as term was used. I was able to work that engine back to service. The Oriental Limited, was a DC engine. It's now DCC and sound equipped with the keep alive as well. The cow and calf is about halfway done, as the cal (dummy) will house the decoder and keep alive parts. That old motor might be a problem with current draw om the decoder. No sound on that one.
This morning I pick up my new glasses, and a stop at COSTCO is only thing on the agenda. My Optometrist is a very interesting guy. He's the same age as me. He worked his way through college and Med school as a Gandy Dancer on the Nickel Plate. The guy is a living history book, and my eye exams always 'run over' as I listen to some of the stories of his first hand accounts of that life.
Have a Super day!
