  • The Gallery: Jan. 2022 "Show Us Some Weathering"

We will devote this first Photo Gallery of 2022 to photos of weathering on models. Whether you built and weathered the model, had someone else weather your model, or you simply took a picture of someone's nicely weathered model, all of the above are welcome.

A short description of the weathering technique and/or weathering materials would be welcome.

Some variety of weathering in this photo. The Alton boxcar was weathered with a thin wash of a 50/50 Mix of Polyscale Rust and Polyscale Rail Brown as was the sides of the track rails in the foreground. The wood steps achieved the weathered look with a mix of Isopropyl Alcohol and Higgins India Ink.

                HOn3 C-19 that I painted and weathered.
I did a pre-weathering on it before adding decals.
Weathering made with acrylics in airbrush and artists oil paints with brush, plus a little pastel soot.

Sometimes a "Before and After" comparison helps to see the benefits of some weathering.

Nice weathering, all. Here's the last weathering job I did:

                      Tichy NYC Rebuilt box

A Tichy HO kit of an NYC boxcar rebuilt with steel sides, weathered with Burnt Umber pastel, Bragdon Rust and blackboard chalk on the roof.

Nice, James. Subtle and very effective.

Thanks. That was the first car I did entirely with chalk/powder.
