    I came across this four minute YouTube video that talks about a practice of dropping passenger cars on the fly, from the late 1880s up to around 1940 in England and parts of Europe, but also said to be used a little in the U.S. It might add a little twist to your operating sessions.

    Interesting, it was like our hump yards, only passenger cars with people inside.

        That was a fun, well done video. I was sometimes practiced in the US. We called if Fly switching but usually with freight cars. I do recall one 2ft N.G. line using it with passenger cars into a stub end terminal. IIRC the Sandy River flew the passenger cars over a trestle into Philips. The engine went to the engine house, the cars rolled on to the station.

          I showed my photos of a Chinese narrow-gauge 0-8-0 flying a cut of side dump cars at the NER convention last month. A little clay hauler at a brick works in central China in 2005. The unloading terminal had only 1 turnout; one way to the repair shop, the other to the clay dump.
