    W&N Branch

    This will be information about modeling and operating my HO scale Wilmington and Northern Branch or the Philadelphia And Reading Railway.

    It is set in Oct. 1903 and operates between Wilmington, DE and Birdsboro (Reading), PA. The layout is 24 ft x24 ft, single decked and has handlaid track, 27" min radius on the main and #4, #5 and #6 switches. It is operated with an NCE DCC system using tethered and radio throttles.

    Since the forum finally came back I have been unable to log in under my original name and have been unable to reset my password, so I have created a new name and are back in again.

    I had the same problem until I realized the previous spaces in my name were now filled by an underline ( David_J_ Buchholz) instead.
    Home of the HOn3 North Coast Railroad, along the shores of Lake Ontario.

      Will be interesting to follow! And lots of interesting stuff on your website.
      Camelbacks are nice, I just watched a Youtube film with Great Model Railroads and Bill Henderson's Coal Belt RR.

      On Oct 22-23-24 my layout hosted two operating sessions as part of OS Omaha 2021, the Omaha, NE operating weekend.
      Here are some pix for the Saturday morning session.

      On Sunday we were short two operators, so my son helped out as one of the road crews and we annulled a couple passenger trains.

      A busy time on the south end. The Maryland Ave shifter lines up his spotters, Wilmington Yardmaster switches a cut, a road crew works the B&O interchange at Elsmere Jct. and the other road crew on the South Local, No 52, switches Montchanin.

      The Coatesville Yardmaster finished ealy so i had him run a very late passenger turn, here he is returning to Reading Outer Station, the shadow box staging area for passenger trains.

        My latest project is an "HSa-fest", building 6 P&R class HSa hopper bottom gondola coal cars. The cars are made from homemade resin castings with added Tichy detail parts and brass train line piping.

            It is 7 castings. 2 ends, 2 sides, 2 end beams and a floor. All cast in RTV molds using Alumilite resin.Tichy details, monofilament trucss rods and styrene details.

          I have been to your site, yes the layout is impressive! Great rolling stock! The gondola looks nicely detailed.

          The HSa class gon project has progressed. Here are the 6 P&R class HSa hopper bottom coal cars I built in November and December. They are made with homemade resin castings and Tichy details. In the track immediately behind them is the P&R class GMd steel gon I kitbashed (description in a separate topic) and in the track behind that, next to the D&H gon, is a P&R class GMa mill gon. The HSa and GMa share the same sides and ends (why I chose those two classes) so I was able to maximize the utility of my resin castings.

          Next task, sheet lead on the floors to weight the cars and then off to the paint shop. While I have a gazillion car projects in mind, I probably need to take a break from cars and shift to some buildings and scenery and to finish kitbashing a MDC 2-8-0 into a cameback and install sound into it.

                      The P&R custom decals are, so time to run the gons through the paint shop. The decals were produced by Bill Brillinger (pdc.ca) and even the smallest lettering is readable.
