  • Building 1870s Boxcars in RMC

I received the latest Railroad Model Craftsman yesterday and noticed a great article by Joshua Bernhard entitled "Building a Fleet of 1870s Boxcars from One Kit." He uses the Bitter Creek kits of the CP 25-foot boxcars. He does several boxcars plus a conversion to a caboose, combination car, and powder car. He points out that similar cars were run on other railroads, including in the East.

    It's a well-done article. Check it out.

Was thinking about you Mike when I saw that article. Got mine yesterday too. I see Otto has a basement finally. I hope he finish's the walls before builds his layout or he'll be moving accumulated items around later like I am.

            Bob,

I think I've seen Josh's work somewhere online, but I can't remember where.

I didn't realize these forums were back up, but now I'm here again! Thank you for the kind words, I am told that Otto received many positive replies from people requesting more from our time period.

Some of the cars featured in the article were shared in the thread "My 1870s Utah Territory Projects", which may be why they were familiar.

Weird thing about magazines. The local supermarket chain, Wegmans, had eliminated all magazines with the exception of a few gossip rags at the registers. Even National Geographic is gone. Will need to return to subscriptions again.
