    Thanks guys, good enuff for piddling around.

    Bernd, I'd like to get a 4 jaw eventually. Need to check the thread pitch first. Most of the tiny stuff I do free hand with wood stock and some exacto knife blades modified for the job.

    Joe, The build plate I heat with a hairdryer followed by a quick spray of alcohol. Wipe quickly with a paper towel . I also use 3 in one oil with PTFE on the FEP. Haven't had a failure since. Temperature has a weird effect.. Lowes carries the 3 in one PTFE. Had a time finding it. Go figure .

      Hmm interesting Philip, at this point i have a coated plate ... but i could go back to the glass one and have a try at that.... thanks for the tip.

      i may have a brand new in the box 4 jaw ( sherline ) chuck... ill have to look

      They have chucks for the Unimat lathes. Just checked.
