  • "The Galloping Goose" in Soda Springs, Idaho

While taking a short cut on HWY 30 in Idaho, I passed through a town called Soda Springs. In the town square I found this NG railbus. I was in a hurry but did take time to take a few photos. I hope you enjoy them.

This might be a good candidate to be built into a model.

Very nice engine, Paul. There were railcars looking like this on French narrow gauge lines in the first half of 20th century.

I was surprised by how simple the construction is. I plan to go through there again & take some measurements. I was really rushed.

There is a note on the window that says you can get a key at city hall to be able to look inside.

Nice find. Be interesting to know who the builder was -- Brill, Edwards or??? Looks like you could use one of the trolley or cable car bodies as a source of parts.

Thanks for the find Paul. It sure looks like a nice project to model. Simple enough from the looks of it. I would guess Les would have no problem comimg up with one, if he hasn't already.

              Hey all,

If you are ever in the southwestern part of Colorodo, the Goose in Dolores is a must see!! Dolores is just outside of Durango which is another great place to visit. That is where the Durango & Silverton's yard is located.

Thanks Paul. Great find. Soda Springs is only a couple hundred miles from my home. Maybe a trip over a long weekend this summer for some photos and to take some measurements. It would be great to be able to get inside.

                          All,

and Yes I have been looking at this, infact one of the best bodies for this is one of the RIO buses, and you could use a 1/48" Hawk cable car too. Radiator from anything but the Grandt radiator would work too.

Seems that alot of the RR had gooses..There is a one parked in Missoula MT too, its more of a rolling box (I have pics) but they call theres a goose also.

I was able to take a photo through the window. Not very good but it might be of interest.
