    Hey, Ed,

Damned good looking rust job on the tank.

    Looks great.

    • Fine looking building, Rich. Your stone work looks terrific, but I think the material you used for tarpaper has too much texture. Tarpaper is pretty smooth. I use strips of newspaper, painted on both sides with a rattle can and then weathered when glued to the roof.

      • Thanks, George

I was going to use Brian Nolan's old method using Kleenex and thinned acrylic paint, glue, but it is a one-shot deal, so I opted for something else. maybe one day I will try your method.

        • here is a water tower I scratch built from the cardboard center from drywall tape. The roof tiles are extra heavy bond typing paper installed tile by tile. The wire binder straps are telephone wire. The only thing left to do is figure out how to create the concrete footings.

          • Looks really good Ralph. you could cast the footings using Hydrocal and a home made mold. What do the footings look like?

              • Nice water tower, Ralph. It takes a lot of patience to do a roof like that.

                • Beautiful water tower!! I gotta try one of those!

I'm not sure if this is technically a scratchbuild, but....

I started with a HO Rix engine house, which was just 4 walls, a roof, and bay doors, and scratchbuilt the floor, pits, walkway, office, ceiling truss work, and anything that wasn't the basic building...

                  Interior walls too...

However, if this is classified as a kitbash, I'll be happy to remove it.

I DO want to try that Water Tower! Its beautiful!!

                  • I'd say very nice work. You didn't mill the wood from tree trunks either. did you?

                    • I agree, nice work. Depending on how interested you are in model photography, you might want to see if your camera has an "AV" setting and crank the aperture down to the minimum to increase the depth of field; you'll need a steady support for the camera, though. If the interior shot was taken with on-camera flash, it's impressive how well it came out.

                      • Thanks guys! I'm not a photographer by any stretch, but one of the last gifts I got from my Mama, was a nice Canon D-SLR...

I'm still figuring out how to use it!

In the past 3 months, I converted to On30. The size of O scale structures means the detail can be even better!!

I'm looking to my FIRST true scratchbuild in 37 years of Model Railroading!! []

                        • Ralph=go to a hardware store and buy some wooden plugs, the kind you use to cover screws in furniture. They are tapered somewhat and when painted concrete grey look fine.
