I've heard of Sn2 modelers using 10.5 mm gauge (HOn3) track, locomotives and trucks for conversions. There are a couple of articles in the NG&SLG, from the 80's that I could dig up for you. One has a great model of a 2-8-0 based on an MDC HOn3 mechanism.
I've been tempted to give Sn2 a go, keep us updated on what you find out!
Don, the Maine 2 Foot Quarterly probably has had more articles on Sn2 than NG&SLG. I know Art Fahey has his Sn2 layout in his store (a replica of the SR&RL Strong, Me. station he built to house the business), and there are a group of modelers led by Dr. Lee Rainey, they are a modular group that I have seen at Gary Kohlers Mid-West Narrow Gauge meet that's held in the spring in Greenford, Ohio. Train and Trooper have a Sn2 Forney that's really nice, although expensive. The MDC engines are hard to find (ebay included - and getting expensive also). It is a very interesting scale, that appears to be able to get a lot more in an area than On2 can, and has a little more heft than HOn30. Narrow Tracks has a lot of information that will be very helpful. Also there is a listing on Narrow Tracks that tells which issues of M2FQ had articles and what they're about. Give Gary a call about back issues. If you need his phone number e-maail me and I'll send it to you. Joe Hueber
Thanks for all the helpful leads and links - lots of very useful information. Cody, if you could give me the months and years of those articles, I can track them down. My MR club has a very complete collection of back issues.
I did see the layout at Bar Mills while I was at the NNGC and that's part of the reason I'm thinking about doing something in Sn2. A friend wants to do it as a joint venture - he's willing to provide the motive power, which I certainly couldn't afford. Crazy idea, but intiguing. We'd build it in my apartment and it would mostly be a shelf layout (in the hallway) and a somewhat wider section in the living room, above the stereo/tv cabinets.
