Poor boy thinking here but my thoughts would be a passing track that is also on a loop. It could be used to pass or meet another train or as a way to get the engine from the front to rear in switching. Probably not done too often in the real world but handy when we have so little space on layouts.

As far as I know, a passing loop is a passing track on a curve. It is often used to save space or if there is no way to put a passing track on a straight. Often used in hidden yards.

Hi guys thanks for the good info was a great help now i know what it is i already had one just the name made me think what the hell am i missing now on the layout .mike
