  • Latest RR Book

    Good Morning, Crew!

Just when you thought you could escape from my postings, I show up in Canada! I buy most of my RR books off of eBay and have been on the lookout for Canadian RR books to add to my collection. One that I just received is excellent. It's a signed edition of Elizabeth Willmot's 'Meet Me at the Station', a book of B&W photographs of various stations around the country taken in the '70s. Many are stations with 'witch's hat' roofs...small stations...a couple of neat little shelters. Ever see the book? I'd also like some recommendations of books that I should have for the Canadian RRing section of my library!

    Happy Holidays Russ.

One that I refer to regularily is "Credit Valley Railway: The Third Giant" written by James Filby and produced by Boston Mills Press. It is a 7x5 format and about 100 pages. Lots of great historical information about railroading in Southern Ontario in the 1880s. Check out my website for excerpts.

Boston Mills Press have done several books on southern Ontario rail, check out anything by either Filby or Ralph Beaumont.

Hey Russ - I just went and had a look in the library (NO! not "that" library!) and came across several in my collection that you may find interesting. I'll list them by title, publisher, author:

        1. RAILWAY COUNTRY Across Canada by Train, Key Porter Books, Photos Dudley Witney, Text Brian D. Johnson

        2. History of the Canadian National, Bison Books, Keith MacKenzie

        3. Railways of Canada, Bison Books, Jim Lotz & Keith MacKenzie

        4. TWO DIVISIONS TO BLUEWATER The Stroy of the CNR to the Bruce, The Boston Mills Press, Peter Bowers

        5. Canada Southern Country, The Boston Mills Press, Robert D. Tennant, Jr.

        6. Signatures in Steel, A Stoddart/Boston Mills Press Edition, Greg McDonnell

IMHO - all are excellent books. #1 and #6 have outstanding photography.
