  • CARM

CARM stands for Canadian Association of Railway Modellers and I have been a member for about a year ...number 157 to be exact .

Obviously the organization is in it's infancy but seems to have had a pretty strong first year .The name is not meant to exclude folks from other countries ( there are American members ) but does focus on Canadian Roads and activity .

In my own situation , I belong to the Essex-Kent Chapter which for you non-locals simply refers to a couple of adjoining counties .CARM produces a very nice bimonthly newsletter with ( I think ) excellent content .Yes , there are annual dues amounting to about $35 per individual .

I can report in this thread from time to time , any goings on with regard to CARM .

          Thanks - I'll take a look.

Like always - been busy and more recently have been having to address some medical issues. I've decided I don't like this "aging" process so I think I'll just stay young!

I think you need an extra dose of Model Railroading ...and I don't mean the magazine . You're letting all that great talent go to waste , Jim .

The Essex Train Show people have approached us about a display booth for their Febuary Show . It looks like I'll be contacting the powers that be about a CARM display .

Any of you local guys are welcome to drop in and say hello . Bring me a large Tim Horton's coffee , double -double , so as to sooth my rather fragile personna .

I haven't done anything like this for a while , so we'll see how it goes . I'm not sure what to include in the display area , but I have a few months to think about it . Any ideas ?

So, they got to you, huh? [:-devil]

Do you have access to a computer you could take along? Not sure if CARM have any "electronic" information but if so, you could set up a "slide show". This could include photos from CARM meetings, layout tours, prototype pictures, etc. Just an [:-idea] You could also have forms available right there for new member registrations.

You'll want something to grab the public's attention and "surprise and delight" them ...

I know - how about RRL tee shirts! [:-jumprefect] oh - sorry - you're promoting CARM [B)][}][:I][:-jester]

On another note, I'm starting to get some of my test results back. WOO HOO - I'm normal (at least I was during some of the tests)! First time ANYONE has ever said that about me! :erm: Good thing - I'm getting tired of having my chest shaved [:-censored] Still have a bunch of tests to go though ... [:-blindfold]

Hey Jim ...congrats on being 'normal' . I immediately thought of 'Young Frankenstein' when Marty Feldman ( Eye-Gore ) had to go fetch a normal brain from the lab , dropped it and took the next one , labeled 'Abnormal' or as Marty said " Abby Somebody ".

It's no laughing matter as I now have my cousin ( younger than I ) going in for valve replacement in 2 weeks , so I find out .Jeez !

John Johnston of CARM said he would ante up for some brochures .Mind you he didn't say what year ( and it took 6 months to get our Chapter money )Didn't I see you with a display at Essex once ? With all that good experience , I think you would be an excellent choice to supervise things .Bring the wife and kids .Food , wine .

Good luck and best wishes   to your cousin. A "valve job" is one of my concerns about me - faulty valves I'm told have something to do with the Atrial Fibrillation I have. I'm too young for this [:-censored] !!

I think that guy you saw at Essex was my twin! [:-angel] If I brought the wife and kids, they'd go stir  ! The food would be ok but I'm afraid the wine would be of the "whine" variety! [:-cry]

Jim , ever notice how the medical profession seems to have the attitude " if you can't cure 'em , confuse 'em " ?

The weird thing that happened to me in May when I was carted off to emergency , was called SVT . With Ford , this means ( as you well know ) Special Vehicle Team !!

" Mr Jolliffe , we must inform you that you have a Mustang Cobra living in your heart . Take two asprin and call us in the morning sometime next year ." [:-bigeyes2]

                      Um ....what year Cobra ?

Maybe it's best we don't really know .

Speaking of CARM , I'm about 90% sure of a 'freebie' table at the Essex Train Show Feb 26 and 27th at the Essex High School . If any of you are in the area ( Bear , JimDad1 etc. ) feel free to drop in and heckle me ...it will pass the time as I hand out brochures , leaflets , kisses etc. Bring a Tim's for me ....large DD preferred .

I'll take you up on that one Vic .

I've been given the OK to spend a couple of bucks on this since they won't donate the table . I had asked for a freebie since we weren't selling anything like the other vendors, we were simply promoting the hobby and CARM . They did give me a cut rate . I'll be picking up brochures and things in Copetown the weekend before Essex .
