  • My Name is TEEJAY and I bought an ON30

Well , boys , I took the plunge and bought a vertical boiler lokie as pictured on the Backwoods website . Peter was most helpful and will have it to ' Canadar ' in a week ...at a cool $400 Canadian by the time it gets here .Think this will be my ' little secret ' from my wife .

No I'm not doing an 'Eddie ' but figured I might as well get something in narrow gauge , so why only go half way ?Get something I really like .

    Well, congratulations Terry! 8D

Your "little secret" is safe with me!

I'm afraid an out-lay of funds like that would send siesmic tremors through my household budget, that my wife would be sure to pick up on!

        Terry,

Do you realize your note has gone out into cyberspace where it will remain forever (which is slightly shorter than your wife's memory of the incident if she finds out).

          All together now:

          Hi Teejay!

I don't blame you Terry, I've looked at those On30 thingies too. Only thing is I have too much invested in HO already, so I'll stick with that. Last Christmas I tried to talk my wife into getting an On30 set to run under the Christmas tree, so far no luck but maybe next year.....

Thanks for the warning , lads , but my loving wife only surfs ' Ellen ' and' Coronation Street ' and has enough trouble finding them !

To be fair she would never begrudge me , knowing I work hard for a living and have very few other spending diversions . Mind you I don't think I've ever told her how many ' zeroes 'I have tied up in trains , but she's never asked ......and I don't like lying

Just to set the record straight , I'm not ditching HO in any way . Like most of you I have too much money tied up to change . I wanted this incase we have an ON30 Forum which seems probable , so I can play along .It could , down the road , expand into a second layout but will probably end up in a diorama in the short term . While logging is cool , there are so many logging scenarios out there that I'd like to try something else ...probably dockside with a barge .

"Coronation Street"? You must be hard up for decent TV programs if your Good Lady Wife has to resort to watching Corrie.I never had a clue that other people in the world are subjected to it,you have my sympathy.Still we get "Neighbours" and Home and Away" from Australia,so I shouldn't be surprised. It's never been the same since Kylie left!

Anyway congratulations in taking the plunge and getting the VB loco from Pete,I rather fancy one myself but could never really justify one,so I'll just look at the photos of yours when you post them.

Nick , many years ago they had what we called 'English Night 'which was every Thursday and featured things like On the Buses , Are you being Served , Yes Minister ,Butterflys ,and later , Ab Fab .I used to watch Corrie as you call it but haven't for several years .My wife is a very loyal Royal as it were ...anything with Diana , Queen Mum ,Charles etc. she would buy/watch/read .

English humour doesn't appeal to everyone but it is most certainly my favourite . I still recite Python periodically .

                    Cheers , TERRY

Now I see why you resist getting a mini-tool. With this in mind and going to work on such huge engines, you'll probably want to go straight to the 4 inch angle grinder!! I want to warn you though, if you really want to keep a secret, that grinder will really make a noise that's sure to arouse her interest!! Richard

Richard , I may just take the Dremel out of drydock , ask my buddy JimDad for a few pointers , and if I become an accomplished Dremel Dude , I promise you I'll send you the coveted 'Bunion Attachment ' that you so cherish ...and if I'm in an exceptionally good mood , I'll toss in the ' nose hair nipper' for good measure .No need to thank me , Richard , it's the least I can do

Congrats man. Very good choice. I had been debating a similar thing a few months back, now I gotta live vicariously through you. Snap a phot and I'll see if I can't post it up. Don't make it too good....
