  • On30 forum?

Hi all, I have recently changed over to On30 and am loving it!! Most fun I have had modeling in years. Just got my Blacksmith car and Pipe Scrap car in On30 from SW. My new Bachmann Shay is nothing short of Great!!! I would like to know if there would be any interest in a On30 forum? Just an idea, seems there are enough people out there to keep it busy. On another note is anyone aware of a O scale kit for a Dolbeer out there? :erm: A friend of mine thinks he saw one but I have been unable to find any. Jerry

    Jerry,

I did a google and this is all I found on current Dolbeer models in production. This is in HO.

As far as an On30 forum, all of the narrow gauges were included in this forum with mining and logging. You might PM Joe and ask him. I hope you will enjoy the SW cars and your new shay. Welcome to On30.

Thank's fellows, Shamus I enjoyed your web site a great deal, just finishing my first O scale structure and after working in S and HO for so long MAN!! this stuff looks huge. Nice to work on though. thanks for the search Jim same results I had, Oh well looks like my first project for my new Sherline. What trucks do you guys find are the most reliable to use? I was at a train show in Portland last week and picked up a set of the Bachmann log buggies. They were 39.00 a set and did'nt look at them till I got home. I can't believe the quality for the price! I know they are generic but the casting and the way they track really impressed me. In my opinion this scale is the best to come in years as even us old retired folks can afford to buy some nice stuff without mortgaging the farm.........Jerry M, Oregon

Shamus, I checked out the On30 consp. site and I find it much harder to use than this one, when I tried to contact the mod. it came back with firewalls etc. so I have not used it much. This site is the best I have ever found, easy to use and lots of good info.........Jerry

Jerry....there are a couple of On30 groups on Yahoo, including the "conspiracy" and the "finescale" groups. Both are good and have their place. What I like about this forum (and I've only been active for a couple of weeks) is that the topics are interesting without a lot of the "me too" comments on the yahoo lists.....Now, mind you I do read the Yahoo groups and enjoy a lot of what goes on there, but if you want to have a On30 list here that "digs in" a bit to interesting topics, I would enjoy it and would support it. Hope that helps....what do others think?...tom sullivan

Jerry, regarding your search for Dolbeers....there were two different models available years ago....one was "little" and one was "big". CHB made the bigger one and I can't remember who made the little one....funny thing is I built the "little" one and just can remember the manufacturer!but it may have been made by Hetch Hetchy models..... (old age!) The bigger CHB model had an enclosed spool and the smaller model had an "open" spool....a bit more "risky" for the operators I'm sure....."watch that line!!"......you made be able to find an old kit on ebay Hope that helps...tom sullivan

I'm not opposed to setting up an On30 forum, if there is enough interest to sustain/support it. With the Craftsman's Corner (formerly the "Finescale Modeling"forum), a few of us started it with a single thread in the Mid-scale/HO Forum. About a month later, that one thread had generated enough member interest that we asked Joe for a complete forum. The original thread is now the "General Discussion" thread in the Craftsman's Corner.

If you guys can keep the discussion going here and attract others to join in, I'll be happy to set up a separate On30 Modeling Forum. I think Jim also has a good start with his module construction thread.

As Jim noted up above, however, all of the narrow gauges are included in this forum. Since we have only a few (or possibly even none) modeling HOn3/30 or Nn3, On30 could pretty well establish itself right here in the Logging...Narrow Minded Forum.

We've got the ability to easily post photos and share files and info on RR-L. Let's see what happens with the discussions about On30 in the coming weeks.

Sounds good to me Mike,I have spent the past few weeks searching for O scale stuff, all new to me, and this forum already has given me some great links to search. Thanks for the info on Dolbeers Tom, there is a fantastic model in 1/2" in "In Search Of Steam Donkeys". That is what I had in mind, will have to work off plans and scratch it. Are any of you modeling a prototype since other than a few obscure Ca. roads there were none in 30". Seems funny to see all the PRR stuff coming out from Bachmann, seems this scale does not fit std. gauge very well.Course being a newbie to this means I'm still learnin!! I have heard Bachmann is coming out with a Climax in 30", any truth to the rumor? Jerry.

                    Jerry,

The whole CHB catalogue was bought by Sierra West last year and they are planning to re-release the bulk of it,including the Dolbeer.Check out their website for more information, and then give Brett a call to see if he is planning on releasing it in the near future i.e. within the next 5 years,

Found the CHB Dolbeer on E-Bay, weird thing, just as I was talking about not finding one there it is! I know Bret may bring it out someday but a bird in the hand and all.Got my Shay this week and I must say ITS GREAT!!! The detail in O is so neat and even an old man like me can see it. Blew my mind when I read today Boone Morrison is moving up to On3 from HoN3, who woulda thought?.........

Jerry, I got my Gazette in the mail the other day but haven't read it yet. Like you, however, I can't believe that Boone Morrison would tear up that beautiful layout. But there is a growing, powerful attraction to On30/3, and a lot of guys seem to be making the move.
