  • UP out bids BNSF on OPPD coal contract

Found out on Thursday, that the UP outbid the BNSF to haul coal to the OPPD powerplants. So as of 12/31/03, I'll no longer being running coal trains. Not real sure what I'm going to do after that, don't really want to go to work in Kansas. So I guess we'll have to see what happens.

Allen, I'm sorry to hear your news. There's no consolation in knowing it's just the nature of the business.

If there's an upside, I guess it could be that there are worse places to work than Kansas (and as a Missourian, it almost pains me to say that... ) By "Kansas," do you mean Argentine and the BNSF yards? If so, it's actually part of the greater Kansas City metro area (KCMO/KCK and the 5 surrounding counties). Nice place to live and raise kids. But I could be prejudiced. I've lived here almost all of my life.

Like you said, you'll have to wait to see what happens. But I'm one of those guys who firmly believes almost everything works out for the best in the long run. Keep us updated on how things work out.

No Mike, I'm talking about Concordia, Phillipsburg, and Goodland. I work for the KYLE RR, we had the subcontract to run the trains between Lincoln, NE and Nebraska City, NE. With BNSF out of the picture, so are we.
