  • Good Saturday morning to all

    Good morning all

Well it is 35 degrees here at 8 AM and we are expecting heavy rains for the next 2 days and then guess what on Monday they are predicting snow. :erm:

So does that mean it is still winter.

In the past 2 weeks we have increased our membership by over 150 new people[:-jump2] and yet very few have posted.

So here is a topic that anyone can answer and we would especially like to hear from you new members.

What do you like best about this hobby.

Is it operations, railfaning, building rolling stock or structures, researching the history of a railroad, electronics (DCC) etc.
    id="red">

Please take a minute to log in and answer this question.

This forum can grow faster if we know what your wants and needs include.

For myself it is building structures and watching a box of parts become something that will one day appear on my layout.

Thanks to all the new members that have posted and let us hear from the rest of you.

    Have a great day everyone[:-jump2]

Good morning, John. Good morning, everyone else.

Ahhh yes, the weather report. Well, it's still winter here. So saith the calender. So saith the weather weenies. It's a cold, foggy day here in the Ozarks. Accumulating snow for tomorrow. What ever that means.... [:-shake]

What do I like best about this hobby? I suppose if I had to single out any one aspect, it would be model building. I love watching trains run/operate, I love looking at good photos of layouts and models, but most of all I love building models. And the more complex and time consuming, the better.

BTW: John makes a good point. New members, don't be shy. A forum is at its best and is the most fun when all members are contributing.id="red">

Have a good day, everyone. You too, Rusty.

Well Morning John, everyone, YoU ToO MiKeY!id="purple">id="size5">id="Comic Sans MS">

Well it's, 36.7 and raining here in overcast Fishers Indiana. Soon to be snow from what they are perdicting!!! And me, I've got to go to Home Depot in this crap to get some more Masonite for the layout and salt for the water softener I bought last night and will install today!

What do I like best about model railroading Just the chance to get to work on it once in a while! All kidding aside, I like building the kits, the rolling stock, the scenery and building the layout. Oh, and then maybe running a train once in a while if I ever get the latter finished!!!!

Well got to go have breakfast, unpack the water softener and see what additional supplies I need, get in the car and head for Home Depot. Oh, I forgot, I'm also going to pick up some paint for the backdrop boards. Some off white and some sky blue!

Every one have a great day, even Mike![:-bouncy]

Well, I ain't exactly new, but I thought the site was kaput, until I got an e-mail last week.

Found out I was still here with my old nick and all, go figure.

I always liked trains and model trains and models since I can remember. I like to take an old board (yeah, I made my layout out of old plywood and anything else I could find)and turn it into something that looks real enought that you can imagine yourself being there. Like to take scraps of wood and cardboard and turn them into a structure that at least from 3 feet away, looks as good or better then the store bought models. And I love to run the trains.

        Don

          Welcome back, Don.

Although we came back on line in early November, it was pretty slow until after New Years. Things have really picked up since then. Glad to see you are back.

            Good morning everyone!!!

Well it is somewhere in the low 20's with snow expected today and tomorrow in Omaha NE. We got an 8 inch blanket (nothing like everyone on the east coast) last Saturday morning which has mostly melted this week with highs in the upper 40's and low to mid 50's. Fortunately it has not just ran off but took time to settle into the drought ridden land.

I got into the hobby just over 4 years. I would have to say initially I got it to the hobby for the wonderful operations aspect. Now I feel that I get bogged down in the planning phase. There is so much to choose and so much I would like to do. :erm:

Keep up the forums in hopes that this is my first of many posts.

Welcome to the Forums, Gilmorejd, and thanks for joining in.

You'll discover that we have quite a mix of experience when it comes to how long we have been in the hobby. We have some members who have been model railroading for as many as 40-60+ years. On the other extreme we have some who have just started in the last year or so.

And we have quite a mix when it comes to expertise in particular areas. Don't hesitate to dig through the "back pages" of "old" topics. There is a lot of good, useful information stored here at RR-L.

              Anyway, welcome.

                Good morning folks,

From the soggy Delaware Valley. Let’s see 20 inches of snow a week ago and now heavy rains equals a lot of water in the streets. Driving was bad last night coming home from basketball I can only image what it is like today.

Too much running around last night to get any modeling done. Today we have son and daughter indoor soccer, daughter has to attend a bowling birthday party, and then daughter basketball. Later tonight I think I will just collapse from exhaustion.

What I like about the hobby has changed over the years. I was real big into just running the trains. Now I find that I enjoy building things the most. Building rolling stock seems to be favorite as of late. I also have found that custom painting and decaling rolling stock a new source of enjoyment. I still like to just make up a train and watch it run on occasion.

I hope everybody has a good day.

                  Morning All,

Sunny bright day in West Texas. Mid 70's today. Beautiful day. The hawk will be back tomorrow, predicted ice and rain.

Building structures and detailing them is what I enjoy most about this hobby. While kits are the best learning experience, scratching building a structure is what I like best. To take a picture, scale it off, draw blueprints, modify the design, build it, weather it, and then detail it gives me the most enjoyment.

I'll join the others above in inviting the new members to the forum to participate. Jump in and give us your ideas.

Taking a break from actual modeling today. I'm going to Lubbock to check out their train stores for modeling supplies.

                  Everyone have a good day.

                  Jim

Morning fellows. Spent last night watching that Mel Gibson movie "Signs" on video. Man, that thing creeped me out![}][:0] So that's one more thing I have to worry about....aliens!

I enjoy tracklaying the most I think. I really like looking at the prototype photos of intricate yard areas and think of the planning that went in to those. Also enjoy building rolling stock and locos a great deal. I like scenery, but can't seem to get there fast enough! Least favorite: benchwork!id="red">

Good afternoon from wet, cold Missouri, it's been sleeting all morning, it should turn to snow soon.

I love most of the hobby, watching trains, running model trains, building stuff, pretty much all of it.

Got to go hang a new light in the kitchen, fill some large holes in the ceiling and plaster the walls.

                        Ahhhh, the joys of homeownership.

And I should know. I have two unmarried daughters who each own their own "older" homes. "Dad... Dad.... Can you...?" [:0][V]

Well, Mike, the weather weenies are saying 4"-7" of snow here in the Ozarks by tomorrow night. And it's headed your way. hehe.

Our weather weenies can't make up their minds, some say it is going to snow all day tomorrow, some say only for a couple of hours. We'll find out tomorrow I guess!

Didn't get the walls plastered, my jigsaw dropped dead so we had to head for Home Depot to exchange it (only 2 months old) and came home with extra lighting for the kitchen that I had to run new wires for. Did get some holes filled though. [:-basketball]
