    Hello, my name is Miles and I'm new to both this forum and model railraoding. Lets see - here's the requested info:

    I live in Maryland with my wife and son (Sean, age 8 and a train fanatic)

    Sean and I have been modeling about 2 years - ever since Santa brought me - ahem, I mean Sean, a Bachman B&O train set.

    We model the B&O but aren't all that time period specific yet. It's an urban layout with a small harbor.

    Our layout is an 8 x 9' around the wall set-up - I've learned the hard way about duck unders and will be looking through this forum for ideas on how to build a moveable gate. We don't use DCC yet.

    My next challenge is building the SierraWest Scale Model's "Foss's Landing", which should arrive in the next week or so. Sean allready picked out the spot on the layout where it needs to go.

        Hi Miles

        Welcome to Railroad-Line Forum.

        I am sure you have read the thread in the Craftsman Corner about our group project on building Foss' Landing.

        It was a lot of fun and it is a great kit.

        Please feel free to add your comments and pictures if possible as you complete the construction.

        As many of us have already finished the kit please ask any questions you may have regarding its construction.

        Look forward to your input on this forum.

          Hi, Miles, and welcome to RR-L.

          As John mentioned, we had a great time building Foss' Landing together and adding our own touches to the model along the way. It builds up into a great looking model. You won't regret your purchase.

                  Since I'm the "boot" of this group (Joined today 01-25-04) I'll introduce myself. I live in Charlotte, NC. I've been modeling for about 15 years and interested in railroads for about 65. Yes, I'm that old. My interest in railroading was started when I was a young 'un. Lived with relatives about a block and a half from the 4-track mainline NYC in Rochester, NY and we went at least twice a week to see the Empire State Express streak by. At 12, I got a Lionel 027 set for Christmas. I am constructing a small little-known mining & logging outfit that existed in Northern Va 1880-1920. Layout will be 3 10' sections in a U-shape. Research time 25+ years.

                  Very little paper work and conflicting histories. Most information came from Nat'l Park Svc. (Sorry, no picture).

                    Wecome , John , sounds like an interesting project you've got going there , obviously researched to the hilt .Sounds like there may be a Shay in your future ,what with the turn of the century logging and mining railroad .Keep us all posted on how you are getting along with it .

                              Hi,John,welcome aboard.I notice you live in Charlotte and was wondering if you had ever come across a gent by the name of Tom English? I bought an FSM kit from him about 18 months ago and as he is the only person I have had dealings with in your neck of the woods I thought I would see if there is a link,however tenuous.I know it is like asking if you know Bill Smith in New York but as we railroading types tend to stick together, I thought I'd ask.

                                Welcome, John! I am actually in Charlotte on business (I'm from NJ) and am enjoying the weather related state of emegency. I don't understand the big fuss. I guess it is what you are used to. I drove to the office this morning for a meeting...which was cancelled....and drove back to my hotel.

                                Since I am down here often, what hobby shops do you go to around here? Maybe I'll have some free time one of these days.
