  • Important Forum Tech Info

    Hi Gang,

Some members are not able to access all the forum features. Please note:

use only the new forum address to access the updated forum

    http://www.railroad-line.com

    than click on forums.

By using the old access point i.e.

    http://www.railroad-line.com/discussion/default.asp

you will be accessing the old forum code and thus will not have access to all the new features. I am leaving this older code available for use with the older Browsers.

    thanks and happy posting!

Joe, I really like the new format for the forums. However, at work or at home, I don't get the pics that are posted, or even some of the stuff guys put in their signature. [:-blindfold]All I'm getting is the infamous MS red X in a box. Any thoughts?

Joe, I'm having similar problems now.

I'm at my lake home, where I use a laptop running IE 5.0 (for Mac). When I try to access the forum using the new url, the browser crashes immediately. If I access the forum using the old url, everything is ok, except that none of the photos show and many of the icons/graphics are replaced with the red X.

I've not experienced IE quitting when I'm at home using my iMac and IE5.2, although the window frequently loses the scroll bars when using the new url.

As an experiment, I tried to access the forum's new url using Netscape Communicator. The browser did not crash, but the site won't load at all.

I don't know if any of this info is helpful to you. I know you're probably really frustrated right now trying to figure out what's wrong.

I have Netscape 4.7 on my laptop. I'm sure there's a newer version available, but I so seldom use Netscape that I haven't bothered looking for a new one.

I also have Netscape for Mac OS X at home, but I haven't tried it yet, so I can't give you a "compatibility report" on it.

              Joe,

              If I use this link:

              http://www.railroad-line.com/discussion

I still get the new format, which is very slow on my home computer. What am I doing wrong.

I still get the old format at the office.

              Thanks,

              Jim Murray

Joe, I also found another problem. When I try to access the gallery, I get the Microsoft error message. I'm using the latest IE, and I've changed to the new URL. Any thoughts, or is it a problem that has yet to be resolved? [:-idea]

Wayne, this forum was designed for an Access database converting it to SQL has posed some interesting challenges.. the rogues gallery being one of them.

However in the long run.. SQL is much more robust and scaleable and can handle many more consecutive users and posts.

I will try to correct these inconsistancies as soon as possible !

                    Thanks,

                    Joe

ps have you checked out the new photo album, file lister, instant chat, and file library areas ?id="red">

                      Joe and all,

If I use this link I get the OLD format, which is what I want sometimes:

                      http://www.railroad-line.com/discussion/default.asp

Using the one in Joe's posting (at the top of this post) I get the new format.

                      Thanks,
                      Jim
