  • Train Wrecks

Since this topic was started in another forum I figured why not place one here too.

The wreck I posted pictures from is the northbound Night Owl that occurred in Chester, PA in late 1988 or 1989. The wreck happened after the tower operator at Hook Tower to the south failed to redirect the Night Owl from 3 Track to 4 Track. 3 track was occupied by a work crew that was I believe rail grinding and doing tie repair. They had several pieces of equipment on the rails which the Night Owl hit. I don’t remember anyone getting killed but there were quite a few injuries. The tower operator was found to be under the influence of drugs at the time of the wreck. He was convicted and I believe sent to jail.

Man! I hate seeing such sights but at the same time I am in awe to view a big piece of machinery such as that on it's side!

    Thanks for sharing!

Here's one that happened right outside my office a few years ago. Tractor-trailer rig was stranded on the crossing, driver bailed out. No injuries, and obviously the train won. Cargo? Two Porsches destroyed.

I try to read as much as I can about this great state I now live in. A wreck that totally got my attention happened in Parkville, MO a few years back. I am sure MikeC could tell you all about it. From the looks of this photo though, it looked quite awesome! Not that being a good thing. Just kinda leaves ya with your jaw dropped to the floor, if ya know what I mean.

It must be hard to run a railroad when your wheels are not on the track.Never race a train to a crossing,it may end in a tie

I thought i pasted the link to the original page yesterday, so here it is.

                            http://www.railpictures.net/viewphoto.php?id=7984

The page says: "NS 3276 Barrell-Rolled Down the hill from Bluefield Yard onto the Adjacent Highway"

Railpictures.net has a lot more pictures (as the name implies), good ones i must say.
