  • Logging photo CDs

I just got 2 CDs off E-bay that has some interesting logging photos. I got the Idaho logging photos and the 'Shays, loaders and donkeys'. Check out their site. A lot of interesting stuff.

While the photos are all B & W they are clear and print up well. A couple of the images are repeated on the CD and some images are on both CDs. I plan to get a couple more of these CDs, the donkey engine and sawmill look interesting.

Russ,One thing I like about a shay is they sound like they are doing 90 mph but really doing 10-15 mph.

I know what you mean Brakie

I have a book on the Diamond Match Co. of California. A funny story from that book recounted an incident on that line when a Holly Wood movie was being filmed, I think in the early 1940s. Two of the actors were Wallace Beerie and Robert Taylor and included a railroad scene with the vintage engine 'LaFayette'. It had a special spur to run into so as to clear the main for the log trains and would signal that it was clear with 2 whistle blasts. Apparently, one day during the excitement of filming 2 whistles were sounded. The log train was waiting round the bend, out of sight and immediatly answered with 2 whistles and started up. Most of the cast, crew and extras promptly cleared out, thinking a headon collision was imminent, not realising the disparity between the sound and motion of a shay. The log train, sounding like 60 and doing 6 mph stopped when the engineer saw the main blocked but it sure livened their day !!
