  • Your spouse has been kidnapped by aliens when...

We were going to take a trip to Strasburg for the day to visit the RR Museum of PA and ride the Strasburg RR but at the last minute I realized that today was the first day of Day Out with Thomas there. Not wanting to deal with huge crowds, we decided to go to New Hope, PA instead.

The New Hope & Ivyland RR was conducting its Railfan Weekend. We rode behind their steam engine No. 40. The train consisted of a 40’ box car (NH&I), a tank car, a 34’ Covered Hopper (was Conrail now NH&I), a RPO, and two coaches. Usualy the trains goes to Lahaska, but today we went to the next stop which is Buckingham Valley. There they conducted a photo run by.

After the photo run by my wife says to me "so this is a photo run by. I guess we will be doing them in Baltimore next year."

Me suprised "You mean at the NRHS Convention?’

She responds, "Yes," and takes out her 2003 pocket calendar and shows me that she has the dates already marked off.

Now I had only casually mentioned the Convention a month or so ago saying it would be nice to go. Well now I have to send in my pre-registration and I guess I know what I am doing for the 4th of July next year.

BTW New Hope & Ivyland was also running their diesels which are a GP30 and C30-7 painted in NH&I scheme of maroon and black. There was also two C30-7’s parked near the parking lot. One was painted for CSX the other UP.

I've met your wife...we were on the same "flight" one day...she's a lovely lady and EVEN had some nice things to say about you and railroading! We had a lay-over in Roswell, N.M......

    Happy Railroading...pass it on!
