  • Engine type used

What engine types were mainly used in Texas during the period of 1993 to 1995? Trying to build my fleet to represent the SP/SSW in the Northeast part of Texas during this time period. Thanks.

Definetely SD40s and dash-8s, mostly B40-8s. From my experiences of the area and the time period (mostly the early 1990s), Northeast Texas was a stonghold of the GE Dash-7 units, probably due to its proximity to Pine Bluff. Lots of B23-7s, B30-7s and a few B36-7s, bot SP and SSW. Lots of GP40-2s, a few GP35s still kicking around and SW1500s for yard switching. Still quite a few SD45s and some tunnel motors (although these seemed to be more prevalent on the Sunset route, West of El Paso). I also saw some GP38-2s, although rarely. Most of what I saw was EMD, and most of the GE stuff was 4 axel dash-7 units.

Appreciate the info. Now I can work on my shopping list. Have to fine tune the engine acquisitions to make the most of my hobby funds.
