    SP boxcars - oldies

    Does anyone have information on these type of boxcar? They look like the Accurail single sheafed cars. I have some Accurail cars that I want to reletter to these type of cars.

    Russ, that there first puppy looks as if it has something like steel siding on it, unless my computer has poor resolution. If that is true, Tichey has a car that looks very similar. I don't know anything about the older Espee boxcars, so will have to do some research. If'n I find anything, I'll let ya know.

      I thought the first car might be either steel or ply.

      Also might be a rebuild of the second car. There's similarities between the two that make this possible. The second car has me more interested as I've got outside braced 6 Accurail cars I'm going to decal for SP.

                For those who still want information (here) on the cars in question, here's what I have been able to find out (so far):

                The top unit is a 40', steel side 50 ton box, class B-50-15, capacity was 3211 cubic feet. These were built for the SP in 1925 (builder?). The number series was SP14488 to SP15961.

                The bottom unit is a 40', wood side 50 ton box, class B-50-14, capacity was 3434 cubic feet. These were built for the EP&SW in 1924 (builder?). The number series when renumbered for the SP was SP29720 to SP31479.
