On July 1, 1862, President Abraham Lincoln signed into law the Pacific
Railroad Act, which created the Union Pacific Railroad.
The act chartered the new UP and the existing Central Pacific to link the country together from Omaha to Sacramento. One hundred and forty years later, UP has become one of the most recognized corporations in America.
They are also the oldest company on the New York Stock Exchange.
Happy Birthday, Union Pacific.
