An old o scaler here. Just beginning to do a layout with my old lionel from my youth. Going to be a short, tight layout do to space concerns. My wife and I are considering running the SantaFe around the family room ceiling. We'll see. Got to get the old stuff working first.

              Holod,

Check my website - I have designed layouts for tight places using O and O27 track.

I'm working up some new stuff for the O gauge section of my website - big upgrade to the site is coming iun August with more O, plus the introduction of S and TT. Eventually I also hope to have Standard Gauge, Z and OO on board there.

              Happy Railroading!

Thanks for the tip. Going to the website now. I'll let you know if I find help.

Before going, plans are for two levels with 32" radius curves using atlas o 21st century steel track. They say it will run my old stuff. Hope it does.

Atlas O will run your old stuff very well. Every report I've gotten about it is good.

Got some good ideas from your website. It's going to be an interesting project. Drawing it on paper is one thing, putting some lines on plywood is another. I don't know how it will look. One other thing that will make life challenging. This is being done in our family room, part of a great room with a kitchen. I am going to "disguise" a DVD Player, a VHS Tape Player and two speakers in the layout. That's why I am going to two levels. Need the space for the electronics. Obviously, I am facing some significant design challenges. But, its overcoming the challenges or leaving the trains in a box. Wish me luck.

Sounds liek a really cool project! By the way, you can downloadfree track planning software for O, HO and N at the Atlas website - atlasrr.com This way, you let your computer figure where the track goes. Atlas O track is a little different in curve diameter from classic tubular Lionel-type and the others. Their RTS software can make a big difference for you.

I have downloaded the RTS from the Atlas website. The O guage library is incomplete. It does not contain any flex track. I did a layout using 36"radius track to see what I could come up with and think I have a potential layout. Just need to shorten the radii.

By the way, since you are far more knowledgeable than I am, maybe you could help with this. I ordered a 3 rail Raritan River Railroad engine from Walthers. Ordere on May 1. Got a note on June 30 that they were unable to fill my backorder because the manufacturer no longer makes the product. I go to the Atlas web page, and there it is, bigger than life. Said they are taking orders. So, I call Atlas. Got put on hold. Their commercial on hold advertises the engine I want. Finally talked to a person, told it was not available but a replacement was. Is it normally this difficult to order products from Atlas or Walthers. I am a little disappointed in the service level. Any suggestions, or is this just a frustration that I will have to live with?

One last question. Is anyone attending the TTOS show in Las Vegas? If so, let me know. I'd love to meet some of the Jersey contingent.

See my post on the HO forum "RTS Breakthrough" you can do the same in O scale for radius.

The great thing about model railroading is you can do almost anything except change the laws of physics

How's that layout coming along? Did you ever get that engine you were after? Hope so!
