With the release of the Atlas SD35 in SP paint, that go me to wondering how late these lasted on the SP. I'm guessing they were retired by the mid-1980's. Can any SP guru's provide an answer on this? When were the last ones retired/scrapped?

Hey Jim,
Six of them are still running around but they are kind of yeller. They are UP Y830-Y835. The first one painted was 27 April 1998. Numbers that will work at that date are SP 2830, 2832, 2972, 2974-76.

I think the whole secret is they have been used as yard switchers and do not have a turbo.

Jim,
Do you have any idea where the UP (ex SP) SD35 units are? I have been searching high and low for them! The last SD35E I saw was sitting in Indio, CA in September of 2000 with a bunch of derelict road units (mostly tunnel motors).
Here's a picture:

I'd love to find them in UP paint...

According to the UP web site, they have no SD35's on the roster any longer. They do still have SD38's, and a bunch of SD40T-2's. Their locomotive roster still showes which units are still in non UP paint.
Here is the link for their roster.

Yeah, that's what they said in 1999, but I saw the 2957 in a consist still pulling freight out the East LA yard in mid 2000... I finally got the picture of it sitting in Indio a few months later. So don't tell me they are no longer around, I refuse to believe it--I won't--you can't make me--say it ain't so!...
Hey, did I tell you I saw Elvis the other day? He and the Lindberg baby are sharing a bungalow in Santa Barbara, right next to where they keep all the SD35s in shining new grey and scarlet, lovingly maintaining them for the day the SD90s and AC6000s are exposed for the shams they really are... (sniff, sniff...)
Where's my teddy?...
