Friendly chappies these train driver types

Out for a walk today with my daughter in a park that runs between a railroad and the Mississippi, we weren't actually out looking for trains but when I heard one coming we both ran for the closest vantage point as I hauled the camera out, driver leaned on the horn and gave us a wave as he went past!

I'll have to go back to the park sometime and get some better pictures, the trains travel really slowly through there as the track isn't in very good condition.

Thanks for sharing your picture and story! When I was a young girl, I would always make a mad dash through the backyard whenever I heard a train coming. The tracks ran at the end of our property. The man in the CABOOSE would always wave at me and I got such a thrill from that. OK...I've almost told my age....do ya'll remember CABOOSES?

Where I come from the trains had brake vans, and yep - I remember them!

Thanks for the photo Mike. Reminds me of the time I was down in Needles taking some pix of Sante Fe departures at the south end of the yard. My eldest daughter, then 4, was with me and she really got a 'kick' outa all the waves she received from the departing train crews.

Great photo Mike. Those ones we have to take in a hurry are often the best of the batch.

I used to live two houses away from the track where many coal haulers worked there way up a grade. This was in the days of steam and the sound was awesome. The location was Pretoria in South Africa where I grew up. Strange but never even thought about taking pictures of trains those days.
