  • Dueling AEM7's and the Legislators' Express

A couple new movies have been added to the Amtrak and Other Movie Archives at .

Normally when Amtrak and SEPTA stop at the former PRR North Philadelphia Station heading east toward NYC, Amtrak uses Track 2 (what I call the express track, due to the use of concrete ties) and SEPTA uses Track 1 (local track with old fashioned wood ties). But coming out of the Suburban Concourse at 30th Street Station, SEPTA trains merge back into the NEC at ZOO with the tracks reversed, Amtrak trains coming from the lower level. Usually they switch tracks before arriving at North Philadelphia, but this clip shows the Amtrak train first switching from Track 1 to 2, and the closely following SEPTA Limited vice versa. There were formerly 6 working tracks at North Philly, but now they are down to 4.

In the Other and Amtrak archives, the first clip of the Delaware Valley Regional Planning Commission's Rail Freight Convention Charter, dubbed the Legislators' Express, that ran in Philadelphia on May 9th. The train is seen here in its positioning move as it reverses up Delaware Avenue from Greenwich Yard.
