Did EMD ever offer the GP7 and/or GP9 with a low short hood? Or are all low short hoods the result of modifications made by the railroads after the locomotives were delivered?

Tom,the GP15 was EMDs answer to the GP7/9 rebuild programs. As Don stated did not come out till the 70s which was durning the height of the rebuild programs.Sadly the GP15 did not see the success of the 2,000 hp GP38-2.Which is commonly known as the GP9 of the 70s!

To Brakie or anyone else that knows,
Did C&O rebuild most of their GP7s and GP9s with low noses? Also, for GP7s and GP9s rebuilt after 1973, were the units generally painted with the Chessie paint scheme sublettered for C&O? I am trying to get an idea of what GP7s and GP9s operated by C&O looked like from 1968 to 1978.

P.E.No, the Chessie only rebuilt few of there GP7/9s.Most that was rebuilt obtain their geep look. Most of the C&O geeps remain in the C&O paint. Here is a very good site for Chessie C&O.www.trainweb.org/chessiephotos/.

P.E. I recommend that you put this in your favorite column.Even though I worked on the Chessie,i still use it alot.Note some of the B&O Geeps. If you will notice they have C&O numbers, horns and bell mounted on the short hood as well as the cat.The reason being they are EX C&O units assigned to the B&O! I trulely hope you enjoy this site and thank the owner for putting so much time in this site. This makes modeling the Chessie so much easier!

Don,Even though I worked for the Chessie,I see units I never knew the Cat had! I knew that had tons of Geeps of all types, but what got me was the Alco painted in Chessie.I thought all ALCOS was retired and off the system. This will also apllied to the WMs BL2s they used at Haggardtown. The common units on the Big Sandy Sub was any and all Geeps, same as the Cincinnati and Northern Divison.Sometimes a SD40 would show up but, that was arare unit on the C&O.I saw the 614 more then any Sd unit, except the SD18s at Russell(Ky) yards. My daughter collects any thing with Chessie,Peake, and the kittens on it.She has just about every coffee mug made with that cat on it! That web page is priceless to the Chessie modeler.
