No, Thirdrail, you're not out of place. It's probably my fault for not having mentioned that the Atlas thread was in the HO forum. I tend to be scale-centric. I'd blame it on age, but I've been this way my whole life

To my mind this forum is more like a club.We chit chat, pass along information and really seem to enjoy each others copmpany. I also think this forum is more layed back as far as forums go,that is to say I have not seen any trolls, throwing flames.

Well I for one have never visited the Atlas Forum because I figured it was for "snap track" people.

This forum is friendly and informative with out an over abundance of newbee questions. Don't get me wrong, people have to start somewhere. But when I see questions like "What's foam board?" or "Which end of the screwdriver do I use?" I start to get disinterested fast.

On the other hand there isn't an over abundance of "rivet counters" here either. Seems that the folks that just enjoy the hobby and want to share their experiences have migrated here.

And Mike.... Go jump in the lake this week and cool off!

Ahhh, leave it up to the HO guys to think they out number us Nscalers .Funny thing is of all the HO guys I know here in GR all but two of them are also N scalers.

But putting that bit of horse malarky aside I concider myself to be a scale model railroader first and an N scaler second.

As far as this flamimg crap goes I say throw a bucket of water on them and move on to the inportant stuff.Whatever that is.

Oh yeah, and while I'm typing this book I might as well tell ya why I'm here.

I like the place(even with all these darn HO types hanging around )

I fully intend to, Rusty, I full intend to.

I'm planning on an 80-mile cruise (40 each way) on my SeaDoo to a part of the lake called Hurricane Deck. If it rains Saturday morning I'm going to be seriously stressed

I'm glad you said that Brakie. I've never had the opportunity to belong to a club, but the Rail-line regulars have made it seem pretty much like what I always imagined a club to be. A little chit chat, maybe some gossip or other silliness, some razzing once in a while, but most of all just a bunch of folks who know how to get along and have a good time.

Two guys on the other forum have a post saying goodbye to that forum because of the flame wars going on, I sent both of them e-mails inviting them here, hope they come. It is too bad what is happening there and I hope it never does here, I have learned alot from both forums and there are some great people, too bad when a few ruin a great thing.

                            Hi Feller Railroad Enthusiasts,

I've put up with alot of prejudice in my time..being a woman in a "man's job" as a printer for 20 plus years...being a woman working in a "man's hobby" shop...being a biker...But, I have been made very welcomed in the Train Clubs, Train Shows and this forum. This hobby is a family oriented hobby and gender hasn't been a factor and it brings out the best in most people I've met. Oh sure, sometimes there are "disagreements" in our Train Club, but it's always solved without bashing. And I've done very well at my job in a "train only" hobby shop. I've learned alot from customers and made alot of new friends. We all share one goal...to keep model railroading around for generations to come.

I just hope that we can continue to stay focused and I don't plan on going anywhere else. Ya'll have to run me off...if you think you can!

Have you hugged your train today?

Saw this in comic srip a week ago and it is my new term for some "rivet counters": Snippy Know-it-alls. Mind you not all "rivet counters" are bad, but some, well... Me, I'm still trying to find out what's the difference between an F2 and an F3.

                                Hi, RR Line forum friends.

I just paid a rare visit to the Atlas forum to read the thread that started this discussion. I noticed it had the same mix of testiness, antagonism, veiled accusation, defensiveness and stress that so many others had when I used to participate there. I'm really happy to see that RR Line forum members spoke up over there, very eloquently. The record needed to be set straight because of the wrong impression about this forum.

I'm a technical guy by nature and I'm usually not very interested in soothing some folks personal sensitivities when I get into a technical discussion. I like to get the info out there asap, and come to a conclusion in such a way that the most relevant facts are identified and the reader of the topic can learn something from the discussion and move on. Sometimes, in that not-so-noble pursuit, I step on someone's toes. Other times, I may butt heads with someone who is posting incorrect information and implying that it's fact., either unintentionally or for some hidden agenda. And, I've been accused of holding some rather strong opinions based on my limited experience with dcc products and the hobby in general.

The point is, I enjoy a lively discussion among participants who share an interest in model railroading and dcc. I like to stimulate observers and lurkers to jump in to these discussions. I know this scares a few people and may offend a few people, possibly because they're afraid they'd be embarassed if they said the wrong thing. Hey, that's not likely to happen because saying the wrong thing is permitted and even encouraged. If something I, or someone else said is later identified by the facts to be wrong, then stubbornly sticking to the original incorrect position can get very interesting.

Passionate, free-running discussions that sometimes occur in dcc forums and user groups drive manufacturers and manufacturer-controlled user group moderators crazy because they can't direct where the thread goes and they feel threatened as a result. That's tough luck for them and it goes with the territory of being a manufacturer in the internet age. They should get with the program rather than trying to stifle the free exchange of user ideas. On the other hand, bashing for the sake of bashing is no good for anyone and isn't very entertaining, either.

There is one absolute requirement for me to engage anyone in a discussion or debate or argument or whatever you want to call it. That's a good sense of humor. Without humor, I'm gone. Life is too short to get too serious about our toys. There are enough unhappy things to focus on besides model railroading so, who needs that in the forum?

I like this forum because the participants are completely free to express themselves without worrying about a big brother manufacturer watching and judging everything. That freedom is what brings out the best and most considerate attitude in everyone here. There's no need for 'moderating' because folks here are giving of themselves in a wholesome and sharing spirit. As the forum continues to attract and retain more and more model railroaders who would rather share the joys than complain about the toys, the Railroad Line forums will become a more valuable resource to all modelers.

Thanks for all the support. it's good to be here.

                                Lou.
