    Information Help Needed

    Hello!

    I live in Texas, but plan on modeling a modern "what if" NYC. My layout room is 9'x27', and the layout will be an around the wall, double deck, point to point affair.

    I would like to depict the area between Albany and Buffalo (each represented by a staging yard). There are several small communities between these two cities. I need help narrowing my choices down to the most promising. I do know I would like to include Rochester with the Eastman Kodak interchange.

    Would anyone be interested in helping me by supplying pictures, track diagrams for towns, industries, general information, etc?

    I plan on aquiring a copy of Conrail Commodities soon.

    Contact the Erie Canal Museum in Syracuse NY,they have a lots of pictures on your topic.

    Syracuse was one of the last places to have a mainline right in the middle of a downtown street. I am also told that the elevated track through downtown was once one of the longest elevated tracks.

    The NYC station is currently being re-furbished as a Cable TV Station.

    Also if you talk to anyone at Central Hobby Supply in Syracuse they have a wealth of knowledge on NYC and the area. They advertise in MR and sell many specialized NYC cars.

    The Albany/ Rennselaer yard had a lot going on and was across the river from the NYC Station. My Grandfather used to be a brakeman switching out West Albany industries and traveling the grade up to the what is now the West Albany Yard. It is a huge gorge and worth mention on a layout, good for helper service.

    Sorry I can't give you many details as I model modern stuff, but there is plenty out there.

        Send me a list of what you need, I can take photos here in Albany and Schenectady, I have family in Buffalo and I will be visiting Rochester in May!! I also have some maps of the NYC line and here is a few web sites that can help you

          Thanks for the leads guys! I am going to try and take a vacation up there in a couple years. I have family in Buffalo, Rome, and Lee Center (and probably elsewhere).

          Does anyone have any pictures/information on some of the industries served by rail in the area? That would allow me to start building structures.
