  • Discussing DCC Systems Rationally

I sincerely feel that this forum is BETTER than others[more informal/ friendlier/ more discussion areas] or I would not have joined it. I just hope that DCC systems comparisons here do not go the way that other topics sometimes do, like: [Pickups: Ford vs Chevy/GMC vs Dodge; Harley-Davidson vs any other motorcycle and Budweiser vs other beer]. The Atlas forum SCARED me just as I found it and was about to register as some members were really becoming upset over other's opinions of various DCC systems. Me; I say: LIVE AND LET LIVE when it comes to hobbies. You buy and run what pleases YOU! Other stuff I might vehemently defend MY opinion on; not this...Tom

Tom, I wish your wish would come true. But, I'm one of the guilty one's who gets passionate about what I consider to be misinformation, intentional or not. I respect differences of opinion. However, when I am confronted by statements which I see as misguided, misleading, manipulative or just plain wrong, I feel compelled to clarify. This tendency can be construed by others as being opinionated or even domineering. It is not meant to be that way. My sincere hope is that participants like you will never be turned off or tuned out by the passionate exchanges that some topics, particularly dcc, evoke. Please jump in and be part of these discussions. Your presence may be the deciding or moderating factor in bringing a discussion to a useful or meaningful conclusion. Your absence may allow the Ford vs. Chevy arguments to continue ad nauseum infinitum. Hang in there!

HI LOU!! GOD BLESS YOU;YOU'RE BACK!! HOW ABOUT THAT!!

I guess what I was trying to say concerning my fear of intense DCC comparisons possibly degrading into nasty shouting matches, is:

      1. Our HO modular group just opted for Lenz set 02, only because we went with a careful judgement call after reading/comparing. If we goofed, that is our own fault as it was OUR decision!

      2. I/we are BY NO MEANS DCC GURUS and would be remiss to pretend otherwise. You could ask me 10 DCC questions I could NOT answer!

      3. I really feel that when a person is poised to purchase any DCC system they should take the time to go to a club or to a friend's layout and "test drive" that system, if they are so inclined. They should list the pluses and minuses of each system they favor.

      4. Contacting a KNOWN REPUTABLE DCC DEALER[EXAMPLE: TONY'S TRAIN EXCHANGE: www.ttxdcc.com] is a SURE-FIRE way to get good answers.

      5. Suppose I ranted and raved that Lenz was "best thing since sliced bread", someone bought same on my say-so, had problems with it and I made an enemy for life. WON'T GO THERE!

      6. I'll make this statement: If any model railroader in area of southern New Hampshire wants to contact us[New England Northern HO Modular Group]and check out what little we have learned[we are STILL on learning curve]then contact me and we'll go from there rationally with NO BS.

      7. Will be at April 21st Hooksett, NH train show [SEE RAIL EVENTS] with members of local Boy Scout Troop. You can catch papasmurf37 there...Tom

In my opinion, this is an obligation that is expected of all forum members and is the reason that I put a great deal of stock in what I learn on these forums.
