    Thanks for the offer Simon, it really is good news, when I first saw the trestle (some two years ago) I knew it was an impressive structure that should live on. There has been long term talks of tearing it down, I just loved the size and enormity of it, and the challenge it would pose, it was the most impressive structure I had seen when I started in MR 2 years ago, and I wanted one!!!

    I would love to see the pics you took on your visit there, I think the end that you were on has the "viewers deck" ??

    The artical has some interesting facts regarding the preservation, I just wish more people had digital cameras back in 1930ish so I could see how it used to be (thats the era I'm leaning towards), oh and I'm slipping deeper into the dark side of On30/O scale so dont be surprised with a new version!!

    Thanks for the link and encouragement, I wish I could get there to see it myself. Also glad to see you pulled Selector over here to the forum during your visit, I'm sure he will relish the amazing work carried out by the forum members.

    Maybe I could try and replicate the photos you post as you had asked, but until I move house and install scenery I will have to superimpose my trestle on your pics, I look forward to trying and seeing how close I got.

      Here are some of the shots from last week. I have also some close ups of some of the timbers, the concrete footings and other parts.

        Great shots Simon.

        They show how gray an old structure can turn. With the exception of a few timbers, all the brown has vanished.

        I would be interested in seeing the concrete footings too.

          I believe that the brown timbers are probably from earlier restoration efforts and repairs. According to the newspaper report on the plans for the trestle, the main bents are in decent shape. It is mostly the smaller support and bracing lumber that is in poor condition. I think that this is illustrated in some of the close up shots I tried.



          Here is the footing, all covered in moss.



          Finally a shot up under the main platform. Not well exposed, but I had very limited locations from which to shoot pictures.

                  was digging around for some old trestle projects. Stumbled upon this topic and has always wondered about your trestle signature photo. great to see the actual build. sure would have used a lit of timber!

                    Wow Karl ... this is quite an outstanding trestle! Did you ever finish the scene? Is it part of your layout now? Any photos??? I would love to see the them.

                        Nice to see another one of my old build threads being brought back from the dead, and this is a VERY old one, back when I first started.

                        and thanks to you and Bob for your kind words.

                        Rob, the scenery never got completed, I used all the trees I had originally made for this on my "Pine Ridge" quickie layout.

                        I could never bring myself to make that many trees again and replace them...lol.

                        Subsequently the trestle got shifted into a spare bedroom out of the way and then relegated to the back of a storage shed where it has been buried and forgotten for the last six or seven years. It is so buried under 'junk', paint cans, spare furniture and all manner of things I haven't had a glimpse of it in many years.

                        The only other pictures I have of it are more construction photos so that would be boring to post.

                        Maybe if it ever stops raining down here in the south I'll venture out to the shed and see if I can unearth enough of the trestle for a picture in its current state, I'm sure it has probably become damaged over the years though.

                        On a side note, as the "pine ridge" layout was dismantled the month after it was built, maybe, one day, I'll pull all the trees off the layout sections that still exist and finally get around to putting them where they should be, on the trestle. That sure would be nice to see.

                            Seen the trestle post come up and my first thought was WOW Karl is doing something with his trestle , oh well some day you will dig it out and do the NBW's on it[:-bigeyes2]

                              Ha Lynne !!

                              NBW's are never going to happen on this one, scenery maybe, but,

                              I'd rather rebuild the thing and put the NBW's on before assembly than try to do it on this one now. That would be quicker and easier.
