Small update. I have caught up with everything or at least veered off the path a bit and back to this project.
The concrete base is not glued down yet but color has been added here and there. I was thinking I might just put some plaster under and press down so it squishes out a bit to make a nice fit .. although I kinda sorta like the crack between the concrete and ground .. you see that sometimes. I think about halfway between the two would work.

Moved the exhaust 'shed' around to the front and added a transformer platform. The tank and frame is from an older drawing .. need to draw to fit.
I'll let this percolate over night (some of my best Imagineering is done while asleep or near so). The exhaust shack has a pair of exhaust fans (the grills are from the jail windows from Rusty Stumps O scale Hoosegow. The transformers are some I had printed off long, long ago. I think I still have some hidden away.

While cleaning the house some this morning I opened up SU and the Widget Supply Extension That way while having to do the mundane .. vaccum, wash dishes, clean the litter box .. I can stop by the computer .. squint one eye at the image and think .."OOO .. I can do .. THIS .."
I moved the transformer platform to the left side. I had grabbed an old SU file that had the platform up high on round poles and modified it. Looking at it now I think it would work better if I eliminated the vertical posts and bolt through to the large posts that support the water tank framing. I need to have something over the clapboards thick enough to let the transformers clear.
Reason I am posting this is just to show how the process works with a CAD program .. you can virtually build a model before actually taking knife to stripwood and work out a lot of the issues prior to building something.
.. and yes .. even pre OSHA having the high-voltage bushings within arm's reach would have been thought dangerous. Just hold on .. if the platform remains there I would put in a block of some kind to protect the people .. a lattice or something similar

What an interesting structure! I like its complexity and the surface textures that you will get with the variety of building materials and objects.
This might seem odd, but I also like the artistry of your drawing. The soft hues with variations in intensity give it the look of a watercolor and the perspective in the last one is reminiscent of a Japanese print.

Ed, Neat to follow along as you work through all the details. Looks good, and yes teh transformer within arms reach did catch my eye, but you'd already thought of that. I like the idea of the transformers being bolted through the water tank framing too.

Honestly .. I find creating in CAD as much fun as the actual modeling. I think it is th creation thing

I tend to go with pastels given a choice .. other than that is the "style" chosen from a selection. I do post-process in Paint Shop Pro so can post to this forum but also use the Smart Photo Fix which applies various filters. Fun stuff.quote:
