Mike thanks. The backdrop was a real eye catcher for me when I saw it online and it was very reasonably priced to boot.
Working on the trees and will share some photos as soon as their finished.

OK, so what is wrong with the backdrop.... it looks like a photo.....the colours are all wrong....I can go on..... oops sorry about that, "can always criticize everything" Fred, snuck in, had to throw him out before he causes any more damage.
Like everyone else, I think the hedge does a great job in hiding the seam between the bench work and the backdrop. Once you add the trees, buildings and foreground scenery, you will have a great looking scene.
Ok, the tree line is finished and I have dark and glue stained finger tips to prove it:

There are 13 freshly made pine trees planted different distances from the backdrop; didn't want a straight row.

Here we are looking from the other end. The trees are made from dowels and pieces of dark brown painted cheap furnace filter then
sprayed with a cheap hairspray and a green flocking added. The dark brown gives the trees some depth so they seem thicker than they really are.
The dowels were sharpened on the end with my pocket knife and the shavings were saved to add to the woodcutters scene later on. The dowels
were painted brown with a grey wash added on top of that. Lastly a brown wash was applied which gives a nice "bark" look.
Also before I started figuring any building placement I decided to put down the basic ground scenery around the trees. After the building placement
is figured then I'll add some weeds between the trees that can be seen.
Next up will be figuring the building placement at the end of the layout so I know how much I have to cut off the black track; probably 5 real
inches or less.
To get started here's the next project to mess around with:
OK, It just might be me, but I don't see any pictures of the background trees (if you posted pictures).
You will have fun building the Wood Cutters Shack, Brett always gives you way too many highly detailed castings. I have often said that I bought his kits just for the castings.
Ron I had problems with "timing out" when I was doing this post so I deleted the tree photos
and reloaded them so hopefully you can see them now and thanks for mentioning it.
Yes there sure are a lot of detail parts and they look like great quality. This is my first SW kit
so this should be fun although I may make a few changes to fit the scene better.
