    • The first foreground "mini scene" is finished so here goes:

The first thing that I wanted to do was some sort of a foundation under the shed. I used scale 6x12's for the base then covered
the whole area with scale 1x6's which was stained and weathered. This provided a small dock in front of the door on the end.
Things like the thicker wood pieces, barrels, rock in the back, and the tires were glued directly to the green foam then the
ground covering was added around those items. That process took longer but the overall effect was worth the extra time taken.

Here is the end view with the door which has a step to get onto the small dock area and it looks like someone left out the
gas can again. The barrels full of junk and the welding cylinders are from Berkshire valley which came nice and clean and
required very little prep work. Everything received a coat of grey primer before any colors or weathering was added.

The ground cover started out with a medium sprinkling of light green Woodland Scenics foam material. Then a mixture of dirt
and sand was added on top of that and finally some gravel at the end of the dock and along the front of the shed. The scenery is
held in place with a 50/50 mixture of white glue and water sprayed on and allowed to dry.

One of the last things added was the planks thrown around which are scale 2x12's given a coat of A&I. Lastly the weeds were added,
as you can see the glue hasn't dried yet. I'm quite pleased with the way this area has turned out.

So now another foot of layout is pretty much finished front to back; although I may add some "bits and bobs" later on to the entire
area. Now on to the next foreground section which hasn't been decided yet. I may have to search the forum for some additional ideas
and things to "borrow". The third section is all figured out but I want to get the next section completed first.

This is the state of affairs so far on the CC&W RR. Any comments/ideas/suggestions are greatly appreciated as always. Until next time.

          • Larry,

Looks like you didn't have any problem making a mess. And what a mess it is! Very nice.

            • I agree with the others before me great looking scene. I trust in time you'll be adding some figures to your scene?

                • Philip, Rick, Michael, Jerry, and Louis thank you for your kind words. Yes I really
need to order some LP soon and get the place populated and also need to add
ballast to some of the track before I can go any further.

                      • Just a quick update on what's been going on with the RR:

So now from all three of the turnouts to the Machine Shop the track has been painted, weathered, and ballast applied. The three
tracks on the right end of the layout still need to be glued down, painted, weathered, and ballasted which be done a little at a time.

The layout is actually starting to look like a railroad now and the second mini scene is coming right along as well. That's it for now
                        and thanks for looking.

                          • Very nice trackwork scenery, and the road view. It all blends in quite well together. You can say you have a railroad WELL on its way.

                            • Philip thank you. Yup it's definitely time consuming; just a good thing I'm retired
                              or I'd be in trouble.

Louis thank you for your kind words. Trying to keep the areas consistent is the
tricky part, but it's coming together nicely.
