    It’s not the V&T mogul. I have a pilot model and the builder couldn’t produce them.

    I have an FED 4-4-0 stashed away somewhere, the 2-6-0 looks a lot better with those tiny drivers.

    Wow... 35" would be small diameter drivers for a standard gauge engine!

    The drivers are about 35". The engine is 2/3 of the Porters. The Narrow gauge version looked better.

    Guys, That is A NWSL Spartan series. They sold it as raw material for the modeler to finish with their choice of details.

    A good idea I thought, almost bought one a couple of times but the driver size keeps stopping me.

    Yup! I learned that little trick long ago when I first started modifying diesel models. Sucked to inadvertently remove rivets/etc that were supposed to be retained!

    Covering the parts not to be removed with masking tape to prevent scratches when doing the heavy cutting also seemed like a good idea.

    Hi Bill!

    Tentative explorations with the one late model MDC boiler model that I have has shown those later MDC boilers are hollow. Seems to me that will makes modifications (and running wires to the headlight) easier. However, I may learn new ways to ruin a good boiler! However, I do have a lot of the older plastic w/cast-in weight that I am going to have to modify.

    Cutting/hacking/gouging on MDC boilers: Prayers needed.

    I have done the trim the boiler and cut off the domes thing, so its possible. Just leave yourself filing room, cutting the zamac core will generate heat, make sure to let it cool so you don't met more plastic than you want.

    Just took away any chance of a Kidder 2-6-0 by clicking the "Buy It Now" button on a new listing for a "green box" MDC 2-8-0.

    I learned from dave1905 that the green box engines have NS wheels and all-wheel pickup. Pretty much what I have with my Athearn/Genesis DCC/Sound 2-8-0 except no sound.

    Here 'tis...



    I hope to eventually muster up the courage to pull the boiler, cut off the domes (fluted domes will go on it), shorten the firebox and back date it so it looks like the Baldwin Frisco 2-8-0 like the one I posted a pic of in my "Promised Update" thread.

    All fer now.
