Well, yesterday I dug out some mold compound, built a box, and tried to make a mold of the coal load I shaped for the hopper. My plan is to cast these from plaster (to add some weight, as well as 'it's cheap') Today I'll find out if the rubber hardened. When I checked last night, it was still soft and the stuff might have gone bad. It's been on the shelf for a while.
update: Well, I'm pleased to say the mold did cure. I popped it out of the box this morning, and I'll try to remove the master later this afternoon.

Sigh... One of these years I'll get custom decals. But for these, just road initials and car number.

Me, too, Dave. I've been using dry transfer lettering for my Slate Run RR. Problem is, "SRRR" uses up too many "R's". :erm:
Modeling the Lehigh Valley, I have piles of Clover House dry transfer sheets with no "R" "L" or "V". Because the 19th century railroads used "L.V.R.R." rather than "LVRR" my sheets have no periods and the commas have also been used (with the little tails cut off.)
I finally ordered a sheet of custom decals.

Now this is really weird. The front page indicates there's a new post in this thread by "CNE1899" on 3/10/21 at 6:53:29 AM, but when I open this thread to read it, the post is nowhere to be found!
Master on the left, first cast on the right. I made the cast pretty thick, and then I file down the ends to fit snugly against the hopper sheets. I should have made the master a bit wider, but even from an end-on view it looks OK.
Next step is to spray paint black, and then touch up with Pan Pastels.
