    I've spent a fair bit of the forum downtime, painting figures. Have been looking at a lot of YT videos, mostly military modelling, to try and improve my painting.
    I find the tutorials on railroad figure painting aren't really that good. The military modelers certainly take it to the next level. Using lots of shadow & light to make the figures pop.
    I'm really happy with my results.. I've found so much good info out there. Nice how folks are happy to share so much info for free.
    Here's some of the figures I got done, and I've done a few more not in the pics. These are Preiser, from a bulk pack of 60 figures.

          Thanks Carl. Yep, they are O scale for the Diorama. I picked these up at a train show a few years back for $30. So 50c a figure, can't go wrong.
          I've done a bit of work to clean them up and some reshaping. The cop I added a belt and holster.

                    Thanks Scott. Certainly no expert at painting figures, and I do admire those that do it really well. It can be a Dark art
                    But last year I did study quite a few YT Videos to try and learn, and improve.
                    Again, mostly the military modellers, and mostly in 1/35 scale, but leant a lot and my painting has improved several levels. It's all about shadow & light.
                    Unfortunately my final photo's don't show how much work and how many layers are in these. And of course I'm limited by the quality of the figures in the first place.

                      Rob,

                      Your little people really do look good! It is the shadow and light part that really helps.
                      In middle and high school I was into military modeling. I used paint the faces, eyes, mouths, beards, wounds, insignias, you name it. I would lose track of time doing that.
                      I am not sure I'll be able to do that in Z scale!

                            After finishing off my other waterfront diorama ( Allnuts), time to get back to this one.
                            I worked out the size of the base and cut it using a piece of 12mm melamine board. Then thought it still just a bit too large, so trimmed it down.
                            Now it's 60 cm wide x 45 cm deep, or 2' x 18".

                            Have glued on some polystyrene for the back wall, which again will have a stone face.

                            Trial fit of the boats. I think I'll only end up using the 2 fishing trawlers on this one. One on the right side and one in front. And some smaller row boats around.

                                I'm looking forward to further developments, on many levels, like your model.

                                I agree with your decision on two boats; three seemed a little too much.
