There are no connections under the layout...I use battery power remote control (BPRC). This is outside under a covered patio. I do have some lights in the buildings using a surplus wall wart. All the stub switches are hand built.

Sorry, misunderstood. The chute on the ore bin is connected to a rod that goes up and down. That rod is connected to another horizontal rod that protrudes through the front of the layout that makes the chute go up and down. I do have photos that might help explain it if I could just figure out how to post them.

Maybe I figured out this posting thing.
On the far left is a red handle (from a used paint brush) that turns the horizontal rod that makes the chute go up and down.
There is also "the dump" that rotates each ore car to empty the contents.
