Kyle I just got caught up on your thread. The turnouts look very good and nice to hear that they work so well; makes running trains so much more fun! Call the BCRR whatever you want; I call it a fantastic looking layout. Thanx for sharing it with us.

Thanx Larry,
Thanx Jerry,
Well it's almost Dec. and a year ago I could only run trains on the 4 x 8 section; no other track was installed. So now I'm going to move on from the canyon for now, (most recent photo for one last look) and tackle adding the defining details (in plaster) to MT. WILSON. (next photo) This will include increasing the height by about 8" on the left side of the top, refining the front 'overhang', and filling in and around the base of the trestle bents. I'll also add rock castings and carvings all over the entire mountain. If work progresses smoothly, I should be done by Christmas. Oh yeah, work will include finishing both tunnel entrances. Merry Christmas!!!!
KYLE
P.S. I'm still full!!

Tyson, Rick, Phillip, Larry, and Mike, thankx so much for the kind words. The following photo gives a little bit different view of the tunnel entrance; as it is a wider angle shot and offers a little different context from which to 'take in' the overall scene. This brings up a question. I will be "slinging" a bunch of plaster to finish out the surrounding rockwork and I was going to coat the portal in plaster also, since it's carved out of styrofoam. This made me stop to consider if I should just ditch the portal and have it be just a plain "blasted" opening??? WHADDAYA think??

I always enjoy seeing new photos of your work in progress.
My preference is to keep the portal; it contrasts nicely with the surrounding bare rock.
Mike

Hi Kyle!
Very very enjoyable photos there. I really like the scene compositions you have there with the imposing steep rock formations and the high mountainsides!
Looking forward to seeing more of this. Good work on reworking the Kato turnouts. I am reworking HO turnouts as well (Peco).
All the best

Has anyone ever tried using the pie pans that store bought pies come in to crumple up and make molds for rockfaces? Also I'm going to use sculpt-a-mold with some of our natural red sand rough sifted as an aggregate.?? What should I use to make sure the mixture doesnt stick to the mold??
This should prove interesting;
