  • WOW! I would have been happy with the old layout. I just love your backdrop.

    • Kyle, the walkabout photo shoot is terrific. You've certainly captured the image of the west. It is very inspiring. - mike

      • Thanx Jerry, Roland, and Mike;
        The backdrop was my first attempt at painting, I'd never painted anything before. The new layout backdrop is done in pastel chalks. I was very happy with the old layout; there were some changes coming to the 4x8 Gorre & Daphetid section. Then as fate would have it, we sold that house and I was only able to salvage and bring along the wye section, the 4x8 section, and the 2' x 7' corner section with all the trees and rocks, called WOODS' RIDGE including the bridge section. Here's some shots of each.........

        • Nice clouds! I have experienced how difficult they can be to look realistic. You did well.

            • Kyle your artistry is truly a gift which you execute very well. Your amended layout has lots of
              operating potential and should be fun.

              • Dave, Rick, and Larry C., and everyone else that has stopped by and or left a comment or suggestion, thanx so very much!! That layout was my first attempt at a complete layout with scenery, backdrop, and scratch built bldgs. bridges and hand laid rail. I started it the first week in Jan. 2012 and left it in the bldg. in the backyard where it was constructed when we put the place up for rent in Aug. 2018. The people who came along and rented the house from us didn't want me to tear it out, so I left there until we decided to at some point put the house on the market. A year later in 2019 we decided to list it in 2020. At that point I started removing the sections I wanted to take to the new house, and a year later we sold the place in 2020. I gradually started getting ideas together in my head and on paper back in 2018, and when I realized that too much work had gone into the project just to scrap it all; Mark, my buddy and cohort agreed and we salvaged the 3 sections that you see in the BCRR today. So now that I had proved to my self and anyone interested that one could actually build a version of JOHN ALLENS' first little Gorre & Daphetid in On30 on a 4x8 platform, I made some changes in 2019 to that section, forming it into 2 stacked reversing loops; from its' original "Twice Around" design. Now 2 years later, and TEN YEARS after I drove my first spike into my first attempt at hand laid rail, the time has come for that section to once again 'change its' colors' and become the new design ya'll have seen on the previous pages. I'm really looking forward to this new project, and I will try very hard to document with photos as much as I can, so long as there's no rules against too many photos....... WORK STARTS NEXT WEEK!!!!!!!!!!
                Thanx again........
                MERRY CHRISTMAS and a HAPPY NEW YEAR TO ALL OF YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

                  • Thanx Roland. I found the drawing I did back in December of 2011 of the track plan I would use to build my version of the GORRE & DAPHETID; the Grizzly & Dilapidated. This was before the idea ever crossed my mind to EXPAND the layout.

                            I second that on the thunder storm background! I also love the layout sketch above. You have talent!
                            Thanks for the backstory on your layout, I enjoyed it. Glad you were able to save some of it.

                            • Kyle,

                              Even your layout plans show a lot of artistry.

                              Thanks for the layout history. It helps in understanding where you're coming from and where you're going.

                                All the comments and ALL suggestions have been so appreciated and mean so much to me when I look at all the wonderful modelling projects ya'll have done. Now it's time to get with the program and start the new portion of the BCRR; HERE IS THE FINAL RENDERING OF THE TRACK PLAN THAT WILL BE BUILT. I took in all the feedback, and studied all the renderings' good points and shortcomings, sat down and worked out a final plan based on the first rendering I did when I first decided to change the layout. All the supplies have been ordered, and some have already arrived. So without further ado, I present the new BCRR:............................................
