Thanx for all the comments and suggestions. Well..... let's see, first the good news; the decoder and track both arrived, and the track they sent is WEATHERED; and man is that excellent 'cause I didn't have to pay extra and now I don't have to paint the rails. Also I've made a few minor strategic changes to the track plan that I think will balance it a little more from one side to the other in terms of track density. Now the bad or THIS SUCKS news.....the decoder was indeed plug n' play; however the wires to the decoder from the factory terminal board (which is not needed when using a decoder) are way too short to mount the decoder ANYWHERE. So I called Leonard (the guru) and he said I should be able to splice together enough length to reach either the front of the boiler, or back to the tender. So I opted for the boiler and promptly screwed up the splice job even though I did it one wire at a time. Don't know how but I screwed the pooch!!!!!! So now Leonard (bless his heart) said don't worry everybody including himself has messed up a decoder install at least once no matter how many times one has done it. So bring it by when Patrice and Gage go to New York, and we'll sit down and fix it. WHAT A GREAT GUY! So here's a shot of the revised approved track plan. Ya'll have a MERRY CHRISTMAS......
Thanx Jerry and Michael; Just a little perspective...... on the LEFT the the track plan of the existing BCRR; on the RIGHT the most recent track plan.....
As always, comments and suggestions are sure welcome...
Like everyone else I prefer the plan on the right as it has a better flow to it. The grade up is a bit steep at 4% and 3-1/2% so that is going to limit what goes up and down the mountain.
The track plan on the left looks like a spaghetti bowl feel to it for me.
Thanx for all the input guys. Ron, this section of the BCRR is actually one of two sections I saved from the old Grizzly & Dilapidated Ry. that you were so kind as to post all my photos of on the forum back when I just couldn't figure it out. I never did figure it out until one of my best buddies that knows computers sat down with me and figured it out, then taught me step by step. This new version of the forum is so easy to post on that I get carried away sometimes, and post too many it seems. I think I still have a copy of the track plan from the G&D Ry., so I think I'll post it side by side with the BCRR so ya'll can see the changes.....(note..the G&D was in a 20 x12 bldg. w/ heat & air, the BCRR is in 1/2 of our 23 1/2 x 23 1/2 garage which also has air and heat)
Thanx again,
KYLE CREEL
SUPT./ GM BCRR
On the top is the current BCRR, on the bottom is the old G&D Ry. (the 4x8 section started out as a version of the original small Gorre & Daphetid RR)
Thanx for all the comments and suggestions guys. It is truly appreciated. Here are some walkaround shouts or a photo tour of the old Grizzlys & Dilapidated Ry. I found these in an old file on my computer that I was never able to post on the old forum....
Hope you like them......
Here are 2 photos of the same section of track; the top one is from 2018 on the G&D Ry. The bottom is the current day BCRR. It's nice to be able to reuse stuff.......
